If you want to test out some of the old-school methods then pop-ups should be #1 on your list. They have been with us ever since technology made their existence possible.
Today, however, people are going overboard with the concept. Just one pop-up is no longer enough. A very common scenario is to display separate pop-ups whenever a visitor:
- visits your site,
- tries to leave your site,
- scrolls down to the bottom of the page,
- hovers over a specific area on the page, and so on.
To some degree, this still works, but you have to be extra careful with your approach and test different combinations of pop-ups. It’s certain that at some point, adding “just one more” pop-up will kill your conversion.
