I dont use banners at all on most of my sites. As myself, most users ignore them.

Not that there are obsolete so much but rather banners have not progressed all that much over the years. A far fetched idea but very short infomercial banner format would be nice. Not sure how it would implemented?

As someone who develops sites and uses banner ads I am definitely banner blind, but we as website owners know what the banners/ads are, when a typical web surfer sees the ad, forthe most part they don’t see what we see.

We really need some innovation in the image department, it’s all gotten boring and hence the banner blindness.

. BTW the etoro banner on this site does something odd with my anti virus software

The etoro banner also pops up a security thing on my anti-virus. I’m using trend micro.

I did a test awhile back with which banners convert and I was really surprised to find that the banners that would give you an epileptic fit were the ones that converted the best… this was awhile ago now, and I hope things have changed since then..

The only time I tend to see banners is if they are different in some way to the rest. If there is a banner that has the same background with just text flashing through, I usually wont even notice it. If the banner has something on it that stands out, I’ll look at it.

I usually notice the banners that are where they shouldn’t be and are advertising something really strange.

Funny, I was just reading a few good blog posts today on this specific subject, and it all depends, besides casinos I have a few other sites, and overall text links have better conversions, I get very few conversions from banners , but some can add character to a site if placed well, and people do click on them.

Whats more annoying to me is adsense , although not allowed on casino sites I do ignore it because you see so much of it.

But then again having a good article with a related small square banner does bring in some traffic.
