vladcizsolMemberGuys I am reluctant to discuss this publically, but I think it would be prudent if our partners set up a fourth party payment solution NOW to serve as an interface between Neteller and our US banks.

InactiveHow successful this new legislation will be will depend largely on the reaction of the industry. If casinos, poker rooms etc hit the panic button, as the two profile arrests have tried to encourage, then it will have far more impact.
The Gov will never be able to effectively police it IMO, but they can use scare tactics and PR to discourage gambling. The legislation that has passed is half-ass in that it compromises 4411 to the extent where there are lots of ways to circumvent the restrictions.

InactiveAccording to a number of sources, Bill Frist is amongst the 20 most corrupt members of congress. And this is the guy who pushed the anti-gambling bill and is a potential presidential candidate?

vladcizsolMemberIf they are making arrests NOW before a law is passed, what makes you believe they wont significantly ramp that up AFTER a bill is passed into law?
We are a relatively small industry. Even a few hundred arrests would erase us. And the US government routinely performs sweeps that arrest people in those numbers.
Our law enforcement personal are EXTREMELY effective once given a task and gleefully don the black tactical suits and masks whenever given the opportunity.
Let me remind everyone that there are over 1 million people currently IN US Prisons for violating our laws against recreational drug use.
When the US Government takes a legal stance on a Moral Issue they prosecute people with extreme prejudice.

InactiveProfessor,
Agree, agree, and agree.
The warning signs were there for a while. This government does what it wants, when it wants. They will go after people, and with a vengeance now, to scare a lot of people. They will prosecute.
This will be a major hit to the industry. It will take some time to recover. We will fondly look back at the affiliate days, when times were good, and remember 9/29 as the Day we lost our Jobs.

InactiveBut from what I can tell this legislation stops short of making it illegal for US players to gamble online – except where state laws apply obviously.

InactiveThe worst thing we can do just now is panic
There’s a lot of different ways to interpret the bill, I’ve shown it to a few different people, all of whom haven’t been able to agree on a lot of the meanings, and have interpreted a lot of text differently. Heck, look on every internet forum, there’s arguments about so many parts of the bill with no-one being able to get a clear understanding ot the repercussions of it.It’s going to be further down the line when see the true meaning of it all. Until then, right now it’s best to just let everything settle, and do our business as usual.
And hey, look on the bright side; this makes affiliates more important than ever

vladcizsolMemberBlack Friday
:huh:I know I wont forget that date.

InactiveEven if this business were to stop for a while the right wing nutcases can´t ban it forever. I´m sure it would take the route of prohibition and some people even made good money during that time :hehe: (ok, I know that was the mob…)

vladcizsolMemberDealerDan I hope you are right… All I want is more time…. Just give us another year and I will be more then happy. I have been going back to my retail affiliate roots and have also been expanding into commercial real estate. All I need is time to finish establishing those income streams and I will be thrilled.
On an inspirational note, I was a retail affiliate FIRST before going into gaming and I was earning a very healthy 5 figure monthly income off of that so its VERY possible to do. Guys if all else fails dont get despondant, there are plenty of other ways to make a very good living online.

What´s a retail affiliate? :tooconfus
September 30, 2006 at 1:07 pm #708085
vladcizsolMemberRetail sales of products and services. Virtually anything you can buy online has an affiliate program associated with it.
See http://www.affiliateprograms.com for examples.
In MY case I earned very good money promoting online dating, credit cards and financial products, software sales and webmaster products and services like webhosting. There are plenty of affiliates who earn over $100K a month and have never promoted an online gaming product.

I’m always right professor :clapper:
That’s the thing, everything is so vague right now. We don’t even know how much time we actually have until things go into action(I’d expect between 70 & 270 days). We don’t know how severe it is, we don’t know exactly what measures will be taken against gambling. The key thing is that we don’t panic. If the affiliates are panicking, just think about the players! Yes, I agree, this is not the best day in our wonderful industry
but panicking and thinking of worst case scenarios etc is the worst thing we can do right now. We have to remain calm, as do all casino/poker/bingo room managers etc. until we see the true fallout of this. -
