Resorts World Fires CEO Scott Sibella

Resorts World President and CEO Scott Sibella was fired by the company for an undisclosed “rule violation” of some kind. Though no official reason was given for the high profile sacking, it’s possible that it’s related to an investigation by the Nevada Gaming Control Board earlier this year, though Sibella was cleared of any wrongdoing in that case.

What is clear is that Sibella and Resorts World are parting ways and the incident brings unwanted attention to the Las Vegas Strip’s newest casino (Resorts World opened in 2021). Former Resorts World Chief Financial Officer Peter LaVoie is taking Sibella’s place at the head of the company, and that does not appear to be on an interim basis.

Sibella joined Resorts World after an eight-year stint as the president of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Life at Resorts World took an awkward turn in April of 2021 when Nevada gaming regulators were made aware of a relationship between Sibella’s father and a convicted bookmaker name David Stroj. Stroj was also part-owner of Tacos El Cabron, a food outlet that operates within Resorts World. Though the Gaming Control Board found no wrong-doing on Sibella’s part, it’s possible that he still was in violation of a Resorts World policy.

Resorts World officials are staying relatively mum on the subject but a company official did describe the situation to a Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter saying, “Resorts World Las Vegas today (Friday) announced that President and Chief Operating Officer Scott Sibella has left the company, effective immediately. This action comes after the company was recently made aware that Mr. Sibella violated company policies and the terms of his employment.”
