AGA Says US Gaming on Track for Record Year

The US gaming industry is experiencing a three-year run of “unprecedented” growth that does not seem to be in danger of slowing down anytime soon. That’s the good news from the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker.

According to the AGA, the US commercial gaming industry pulled in $16.07 billion over the course of Q2 2023. That’s up an astonishing 8.1 percent from Q2 2023 and marks the tenth straight quarter of growth for American gaming interests.

Because no one ever tires of hearing good news, the AGA’s most recent press release also points out the fact that Q2 2023 was the second highest grossing quarter the business has ever seen – topped only by Q1 2023. Suffice to say, the $32.71 billion earned in H1 2023 was the highest earning six months in US gaming history.

“While commercial gaming is on track for an unprecedented third consecutive year of record revenue, the lasting impact we’re making on our communities through this record growth is even more impressive,” AGA President and CEO Bill Miller said in a recent press release.

By “lasting impact” on communities, Miller means tax revenues, and it’s definitely a big number. Over the course of the first six months of the year, commercial gaming has generated $7.6 billion in tax revenue at the state and local level. That’s up 12 percent from the first six months of 2022.

Miller also made it clear that US gaming’s hot run is no accident. “These results are a clear indication that our post-pandemic recovery wasn’t a fluke: the gaming sector continues to thrive, and when we do well, our communities do well. To sustain this momentum, the AGA will continue enlisting more allies in our fight against the illegal market, bolstering responsible gaming, and building a business environment that allows our innovative industry to bring world-class entertainment to adults across America.”
