Publishing a Blog? That’s Only the Beginning of Your Journey

The idea of simply publishing a blog and moving on to the next project is an okay idea, if you don’t really care about your content.

If, however, you’re the kind of publisher who wants to get the absolute most out of each and every article you post, there are a few more steps you can take. Even better, most of them don’t require much in the way of time or effort.

Take a Look at the Published Post

How many times have you hit “publish” and never thought about that post again?

If you’re like most publishers, you simply move on to the next task, but that’s maybe not such a good idea. Content guru Neil Patel suggests going back and proofing your work one last time and working from the published copy.

Not only does this method catch mistakes you might have missed the first time, it allows you to see your work from the reader’s perspective.

Update Your Old Posts

Patel also suggests going back and adding links to your new postings to posts that have already been published. This practice beefs up your overall authority and helps keep those older postings relevant to search engine bots.

Post on Social Media (with Pictures!)

Each and every blog you post up needs to make its way to your various social media properties and every social post needs to have a picture. There’s really not much argument in social circles that pictures make a huge difference when it comes to engagement of all types, including click-throughs.

It’s also important to really think about the text you include with your social posts. Keep it crisp and engaging. The number of characters you’ve got with Twitter makes your standard short description seem like a novel.

Finally

If you think of all of your content as a work-in-progress, and revisit it often, you’ll always be assured of getting the most out of your work.
