CAP’s guide to casino affiliate marketing in Germany
It’s an interesting time to be a casino affiliate marketer in Germany.
The German online gambling situation has become almost as controversial as in the United States, with a current crisis over the country’s online gambling regulations brought to a head with recent moves by Betfair and Bwin.Party.
At the moment, online gambling in Germany is not regulated — which is causing problems. A year ago, EU regulators demanded that Germany implement regulations to be in line with the rest of the EU.
As a result, the nation is in the middle of a “consultation” on German plans “to introduce a hefty gambling tax that has led to complaints from major gaming companies,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
Because of this lack of regulations, online gambling brands can operate without licensing or taxation. But that’ll soon change: Germany has proposed igaming regulations that include a whopping 16.67% online betting tax turnover.
Betfair and Bwin.Party have, as a result, protested that the regulations are not only unfair, but probably illegal.
Where to begin?
So where does that leave gaming affiliates still interested in the German market? Given France’s example, and how often the German plans have been stalled, new regulations and taxes could also be years off. Until then, almost every major casino affiliate program — including most CAP Listed Programs — are open to promotion in Germany.
