This will either be CAP’s worst poll ever or we’ll have some good discussion about using the word “online” vs. using the word “internet” in domain names, seo, etc…

I was going to purchase some domain names today and for this project it was required that they include either “online” or “internet” in the actual domain name. This got me to thinking which word would be the better one to include.

Personally I think I prefer “online” vs. “internet” because that seems to be what a vast majority of people call the Internet these days.

However, I was wondering if anyone had any “in depth” opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of either words in relation to domain names, seo, or any other aspect.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

According to Google Adwords, the following searches were done in June:

online casino – 246,000
internet casino – 33,100
best online casino – 14,800
best internet casino – 720
online gambling – 110,000
internet gambling – 27,100

The reason I stopped to think about which word to use in the first place was because “internet” sounds more official/professional than “online” to me. The type of website I’ll be creating will be something non-industry related that might benefit from the more “official sounding” name.

For example, I would rather be an account holder at xxhttp://www.InternetBank.com rather than xxhttp://www.Onlinebank.com.

While “online” is searched far more, and certainly keywords in the domain are important, it will be easier to rank for “Internet” if the domain is a new one. Short term at least.

People where first talking about cyber casinos.
So I have domains like cyberspacecasinos.com, cyberspacegambling.com
I even rank no 1 for cyber casino but that brings only very little traffic.

Bring back cyyybeerrr forget online.

Go with online, you won’t go wrong with it based on the number searches

I had completely forgotten about cyber. I am sure before people spent ages building content and links for cyber did it used to bring in traffic and players?

not really.
But i did like the name so got several cyberspacecasinos and gambling domains and page.
I optimized one site for cyber waiting for the comeback :inlove::sarcasm:

Cyber isnt very popular nor competitive.
