Do you get sciatica?

Or other related work place (I sit in a chair all day) type of injuries? For me it seemed to come out of nowhere but I have it on the right side and my calf muscle has been burning literally for 6+ months and it’s horrible. Treatments/therapies include acupuncture (check), Yoga (not yet), massage (check), physiotherapy (check). I have talked to a lot of people and it seems to stem from being in chair often and my posture.

I thought I had this taken care of by doing martial arts for 4+ years but this spring I had to slow down on muay thai since things were not improving. I now have home exercises and am supposed to take breaks. Just want to know if I’m not the only one who’s had this. I hate it!

Speaking off aching and pain…!

Really not good, I go to work for 8 hours sitting at a computer, and then return to find myself turning on my laptop and getting started on ‘tweaking’ some things on my site, until I know it, owwwwww!!!!

I have it, after 31 years in retail, pounding the floors and the freight and blowing out L2-3 and L 3-4 discs and a double discectomy last year I hoped it would be gone.

Standing is the worst for it. Have re-developed the issues, went to P.T. two weeks prior to Barce and went back this week. No relief though, MRI to be scheduled and hopefully a different way to relieve the issues. Unable to stand in one place for more than 15 mins without terrible debilitating pain. (anyone notice how I was always moving around, one foot to the other at CAP?) It was due to the constant pain. Moving and walking keeps it bearable.

OK, quit bellyaching and get busy on content Bruce!

Renee’ it is posture and monitor placement that causes the burning in the upper torso, the sciatica involves the legs (sciatic nerve). i learned a lot from my therapist (physical not mental :roflmao

Post lard ass days, I used to be a runner and basketball player, too much jarring on my back lead to spraining my back. No walking of moving for a week. Taking a crap was so hard <span title=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

Posture, massage(chinese deep tissue for an hour), and a comfy chair helps. I prefer the Aeron chair, high wide back, feels like im sitting on air, i dont get sweaty sitting on it, find it really hard to slouch in the chair, and configurable in every way. Pick them up for about $1500 Aussie for the el premo, big version.

This might sound excessive.. but 12-16 hrs a day on Aeron isn’t a problem… its been Rak tested. Just dont sleep in it.

OK that makes sense now, also makes sense why i think of a greek woman spitting…

Attica (Αττική) is a place in greece, a region… so thats where my association of the name came from..

Nice one.

Dog Day Afternoon was an early 70s film classic that helped cement Al Pacinos legacy as one of Americas premeire actors. During a key scene he came out the bank that he and his partner were holding hostage and rallied the crowd in his favor with a chant os Attica! Attica! Attica! it was a very powerful moment in the film so when I read the title of the poll the word sciatica brought me back to that movie.

Attica itself is an interesting event to read about to get a picture of where the American Prison system was at in the early 70s and the brutality with which we treated our own people. Check it out here if you have time and note the reference to Dog Day Afternoon and the symbolism that Attica! Attica! Attica! scene represented.:

I want this AK chair and their yeti chairs too! I have heard mixed reviews of the Aeron Miller chair.

I thought swimming would help a lot and I’m considering hitting the pool if I can’t do much else.

wow popular thread, don’t feel so bad that I’m not all alone but I will get over it.

The chair i sit on in the office is worth $2500.. it can turn any which way you want.. but it is still no good.. I can’t sit still in it.. Might just be me.

Prof – I’m SO confused by your photo, although I can’t stop laughing at it..

Every time I read the word sciatica, all I think about is an old greek lady spitting because someone has given her the evil eye… strange.
