PokerStars Going to Russia

December 5, 2008 (InfoPowa News) — PokerStars.com has announced a brand new poker series, the Russian Poker Tour, which will bring elite poker tournaments to that country’s most prestigious venues.

A statement from the company says that the Russian poker scene has exploded in recent years, with millions of people playing both live and online at PokerStars events. "Russian poker is a hot property that has also produced some of the best players on the scene right now — including Team PokerStars Pro player Alex Kravchenko and WSOP Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov, currently the top two highest earning Russian players of all time," a Poker Stars spokesman said.

The tour kicks off in the beautiful city of St. Petersburg between January 25th and February 1st 2009. Then the action moves to the nation's capital Moscow from February 22nd to 28th, 2009.

Online satellites for the Russian Poker Tour are currently in progress at the sponsor's site, with prize packages worth $8,000 that include tournament buy-in, hotel accommodation, and money for expenses. Full details are available on the Poker Stars website at http://www.pokerstars.com/rpt/.
