Poker2Nite Explores Opposite Ends of Internet Poker Spectrum: Big Money Tournaments and Charity

April 28, 2010 (CAP PR Wire) — UB.net’s leading poker news television series, Poker2Nite , continues with episode nine of Season 2 this Wednesday at 11pm EDT on VERSUS. Joe Sebok returns fit and firing on all cylinders, joining co-host Scott Huff on set to serve up Poker’s weekly headlines, while the dynamic pair welcome poker’s charitable guru Rafe Furst, poker player Thuy Doan who shares her personal battle with Cancer, and newly crowned WPT Champion David Williams.

Original “Tiltboy”, entrepreneur, investor and part-time pro poker player Rafe Furst is this week’s special in-studio guest. The philanthropic visionary visits with Huff and ‘Seebs’, and he sets the tone for a Poker2Nite focus on the issue of charitable causes within poker.

When Furst isn’t playing poker online, rocking the World Roshambo Championships, or stealing fifth place in a Ladies Only tournament (true story),  he keeps it real raising money for Cancer Research & Prevention Foundation (CRFP) through the “Put a Bad Beat on Cancer” initiative that he spearhead with fellow Tiltboy, Phil Gordon. Here, he talks recent and upcoming land-based poker charity events,  takes on Seebs in a ‘Rock, Paper Scissors’ face-off, and sticks around to brave the 60 second barrage of relevant and random questions in the regular “On the Clock” Poker2Nite segment.

Later in the show the co-anchors chat with young poker player Thuy Doan, who’s playing the game of her life in her battle against cancer. Doan, a well-known online blogger, provides an update on her condition and talks about the heartfelt support she’s experienced from the wider poker community in her struggle against the ‘Big C’.

This week’s episode also catches up with two of the big tournament wins of the past week, including  the luscious Liv Boeree’s career-making $1.7 Million win at the EPT San Remo in Italy. The UB.net pro speaks to Poker News reporter Gloria Balding about besting a record field of 1241 to bank her richest payday to date.

The WPT Championship came to a close this past weekend, with 2004 WSOP runner-up David Williams emerging with the title and banking $1.53 Million. The Bodog pro outlasted a small but illustrious field of 195, including a final ten loaded with some of the toughest guns  in the game – Hellmuth, Nguyen, Billy Baxter, Benyamine, and eventual ‘bridesmaid’ of the $25,000 +500 buy-in event, Team UB’s Eric ‘Basebaldy’ Baldwin. Williams Skype calls with Seebs and Huff, and talks candidly about who his greatest fear was going into the WPT final, and whether the new hairdo has been his source of strength,  à la the Herculean lion-slayer of the Samson and Delilah biblical narrative.

Dana Workman deals out the best of the reader “Mailbag” questions,  answered here by Andy Bloch and David Williams.  She delves into the online chatter to decipher what’s caught the minds of the mostly male poker playing forum fanatics, including reaction to poker hottie Liv Boeree’s big EPT win, and the controversial debate over the WSOP’s Top 20 Tournament of Champions vote getters so far.

Poker2Nite viewers in the U.S. can catch the latest episode each Wednesday at 11pm EDT on Versus. Fans of the show outside of the U.S. can catch Poker2Nite on SportsNet in Canada and The Poker Channel in Europe. Viewers should consult their local listings for exact airtimes.
