NFL Legend Drew Brees joins PointsBet for equity

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback, and future NFL Hall of Famer, Drew Breese is partnering with PointsBet in a deal that exchanges his services for a “significant” equity stake in the company. It’s a major public relations coup for PointsBet and an interesting model for how US sports betting operators might land name-brand professional athletes to endorse their products.

The Brees deal also links in with the legendary QB’s relationship with NBC Sports, where he will be working as a broadcaster this season. PointsBet is the official sports betting partner of NBC Sports and is set to develop content and marketing materials for the broadcasting giant and Brees will be playing a major role in that aspect of the operation.

In, yet another, departure from the old part line that sports betting would ruin professional sports, Breese commented on the new deal in a press release saying, “I am excited to team up with PointsBet, a leader in the future of sports entertainment built off elite technology. Sports betting is growing across the country and will positively impact sports engagement, and I am proud to be at the forefront alongside PointsBet and NBC Sports.”

Johnny Aitken, PointsBet USA CEO grasped the significance of having a spokesperson of Brees’ stature saying, “Today is a massive day for our company as we welcome Drew Brees into the PointsBet family. Drew is renowned for his tireless work ethic and achieved great success in his career regardless of the obstacles in front of him, possessing the scrappy, well-prepared challenger, win-at-all-costs mentality that embodies PointsBet’s DNA. We look forward to collaborating for years to come and integrating Drew across our portfolio to complement PointsBet’s market-leading technology infrastructure and strategic approach to the competitive sports betting space.”
