New Jersey online gambling sets (another) record

When New Jersey lawmakers and residents set out, more than a decade ago, to bring regulated online gambling to the good people of the Garden State they had no idea how successful they would be. Month after month, NJ online gambling sites have been bringing in record revenue and November 2019 proved to be no exception.
For the month of November, regulated online gambling sites in New Jersey brought in an astonishing $49.1 million in revenue. That number represents an 82 percent increase over the same period in 2018. If New Jersey residents continue spending cash in virtual casinos in December 2019 the way they did in November, the industry will likely have generated more than $480 million in revenue for the year. By way of comparison, the entire NJ-facing online gambling industry only brought in $298.7 million for the entire year in 2018.
Leading the charge out of Atlantic City on to the internet was the state’s perennial leader in online revenue, the Golden Nugget (which could just as easily be named the “Golden Goose” for the amount of gold its currently producing). The AC-based casino generated $18.9 million in revenue for the month. To get a sense of how big online gambling is in New Jersey, please note that the Golden Nugget’s land-based casino only drew in a mere $17 million for the same period.
One aspect of New Jersey’s online success story that hasn’t panned out quite as expected is the online poker segment. NJ’s combined revenue for online poker brought in a measly $1.49 million for the month. That number represents a new record low for Garden State online poker.
