MGM Offers Up Vegas First: Real Money Mobile Gambling

MGM Resorts International is breaking new ground in Las Vegas with the city’s first real money mobile gaming system. The easyPLAY Mobile Tournaments platform allows casino guests to compete in gaming tournaments with other guest, no matter where they are on the property.

The system, which is available at the ARIA Resort & Casino; Bellagio; MGM Grand; Mandalay Bay; The Mirage; Monte Carlo; Luxor; New York-New York; and Excalibur properties, operates through hotel Wi-Fi systems. It’s important to note that easyPLAY offers a whole suite of casino games, not just poker. Currently, poker is the only form of online gambling that’s allowed anywhere in Nevada, except through easyPLAY.

There is, however, another important difference between easyPLAY and standard online gambling. easyPLAY offers tournament play and only tournament play. That’s why Nevada gaming regulators, including A.G. Burnett, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, gave their blessings to the new systems.

Not surprisingly, MGM officials are publicly gung ho about the new system. In a statement to VegasInc.com, Tom Mikulich, senior vice president of business development for MGM Resorts described the new tournament system as:

…an exciting, new opportunity to play their favorite games while enjoying the best Las Vegas has to offer.

By, “the best Vegas has to offer,” Mikulich is referring to every square inch of the casino property. It’s not tough to imagine casino guests indulging in poolside mobile slots tournaments or sitting in the corner of a hotel bar, deeply engaged in a blackjack tournament.

If easPLAY takes off for MGM, expect to see similar mobile gambling tournaments pop up in every major casino on the planet.
