How to check link requests?

TOG asked 3 years ago
HI,

I have started to get loads of webmasters contacting me for link back requests, what is your best method of screening out the ones that won’t cause damage or actually assist.

Can we afford to be picky with currently PR0? We have been adding content all the time and try to make the site http://www.toponlinegambling.com is varied and full. (The goal is about 1000 pages)

For Example, is it wise to link back to forums such as any gaming related pXXX.ezboard.com/XXXX etc?

Thanks!

Yes, you can and should be picky if you want your site to have any PR whatsoever.

I typically do not link to ezboards, but I know there are some good ones out there.

Also, the ones that are contacting you… be very wary. Many of them are black hat sites. Check their linking scheme…. lots of them are like this:

link to my site http://www.mysite.com

your link will be placed on http://www.mysite.abcinfo.com

Those suck and are all over the place.. same with:

http://www.mysite.verynice.com

Be veeeeeery careful.

DO you have any idea why google does not find my links when I type :
link:http://www.toponlinegambling.com – We do have around 40 ( found in MSN and we are banned in Yahoo)
Google just started indexing my pages, do you think it will take time before it finds the links ?

Google seems to only show a random smattering of backlinks and is widely regarded as worthless information. Yahoo and MSN show all of the backlinks and is probably closer to the information that Google really has for you.

Personally, I ignore all requests for link exchanges that I receive via email. The only link exchanges I ever participate in are one that I have initiated myself.

Why are you banned in Yahoo?

Yep!

Don’t link to people contacting you by mail. Black SEO places do this routinely, and you can’t always tell that they are using methods google penalizes. They get into trouble, you get into trouble.

It’s best to link to people you know from here or other boards. It’s still not 100% safe, but it gives you some recourse.

HI all and thanks for the replys.

I have removed all mass mail links requests I had before.
As for Yahoo, I think that it is due to affiliate links, they only index my index page / CSS file after removing about 30 pages scanned before.

Still dont know for sure if it was affiliate links. But now google scans me well so I’m much calmer.:laughcry:
