Do you have a DMOZ listing?

jonitas asked 3 years ago
Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many of you are listed in a directory like DMOZ and Yahoo!

statement: ‘In a tough market like gambling such a listing is essential.’
How about that? Do you rank good even without being listed?

Good luck with the linkbuilding, site submitting…

I don’t have a listing and at one point for a while last year had very high rankings for majour keywords in google, msn & yahoo all at the same time. I still rank high in msn and google now. A dmoz or yahoo directory listing dosn’t mean a great deal and gives very very little boost to a sites rankings.

I have my Russian sites in DMOZ which isn’t that good as Google just 3rd in Russia. Anyway I have better positions in Google than other SE so I think it’s helpful.

rtb1980, DMOZ consider multiple resubmissions as SPAM.

DMOZ is silly, they don’t update their gaming section and I think it just totally bites.

I’ve had my site for almost 5 months now, I’m not listed with them yet and I’m not going to pay $300:nono: for Yahoo.not yet at least.

… Ohh well I’ll keep trying. Do you think they would blacklist you if you re-submit your site every few months? I’ve submitted to yahoo and DMOZ both twice. Are there any other large/good directories that anyone can reccomend?

Thanks.

Maybe that’s the case … now …

But given that DMOZ has a category for Sports Handicappers that still seems to be active it’s surprising …

We’re in …

Casinos Compared (uk edition) is listed on DMOZ, nice to have, but it doesn’t really do anything for your rankings from what i can tell.

The one thing I have heard is that once you get into Yahoo, your SERPs on Yahoo change as far as Title and Description returned (since they use your directory listing now instead of what you have put together for all of your pages), which can actually negatively impact your rankings on Yahoo.

The yahoo directory no longer accepts sites related to gambling.
