Affiliate Stats & Tracking

JillO asked 3 years ago
How often are you keeping track of your affiliate stats with all of the programs you’re running?

This is kind of embarrassing to admit… but I’m a little OCD when it comes to stats. Yes… I’m the “Refresh… Refresh… Refresh” person.

Although I’m creative, I need to back everything up with numbers and reporting so I can understand the best way to focus marketing efforts to make the biggest bang for my buck.

I know, I’m a bit OCD about it… but, I’m totally baffled by people that hardly check their stats. Aren’t you afraid that something will go awry?

Yah, when the results are good the feeling is great.

But when someone else wins, I lose – the pain of it all.
But I guess the odds are in our favor <span title=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

I have the retail sites so I’m printing packing slips, labels, etc. a good part of the day or night so its not a big effort to check a few programs inbetween. Plus it keeps log in details fresh in my mind.

Back when I first started in the biz I would check them like a hawk, several years in when I started doing well I checked them less as I knew what I could expect at the end of the month.

These days, with some programs I’ve started checking them once a week to once every two weeks to see how things fluctuate. I like to check them the day before the end of the month too so that I can see which programs have waited till the last day to give me a baby face. I really wish I could turn the clock back to 2004-07 – still holding out hope that things will pick up in time.

I have always wondered if the programs keep track of how often you check your stats … thinking with an evil mind I’ve thought at times that programs might be more apt to shave accounts that were never checked.

I also watch them very closely, I think its important to pay attention to your money..

I watch them closely. catch a lot to.

Saw $900 in earning dissappear a few months back when a player closed their account. Got that straightened out.

when I was hacked a few years back I happened to look at my stats and clicked over to my pmop and noticed the info was changed. The person opened an NT account and the AM had just entered the payment in the spreadsheet for payments. That little obession saved me from losing $1200.

There are a bunch more stats problems I discovered at one point or another with Betfred, Affiliatewide, Brightshare.

As a single person operation you have to do everything. But, part of the advantage of working for ourselves is that we get to decide what we want to do.

We all have our ‘hot spots’ – things we like to do, want to do and things we avoid. For me, that may change day by day or month by month.

Somewhere I’ve seen a list of what a typical day should look like. Getting links, learning, reviewing and trying to keep on top of your sites should always be part of that.

Right now, for me that includes looking at stats for a new promotion avenue I’m working on. Part of it means looking to see if I’m getting more traffic from that effort. If not, I experiment, modify and move on.

Everyone surely does things differently.

I’m kind of amazed by this… And more and more affiliates share that they do not check stats that often. What about optimization and knowing where you stand with affiliate commissions?

How do affiliates determine what programs are working and not working for their traffic before they waste valuable promotion space?
