When I hear of unauthorized access to player funds it worries me. I would like to know what safeguards have been put in place to not have this happen again, and when this happens, who carries the burden.

The same is happening there all the time and other customers were complaining about the same problem in the past as well already!
Anyone can call BetCris, pretend to be someone else, mention that persons name, address, email address, date of birth and phonenumber and… *bling* *bling*: His username and accountnumber (and money) is yours!

I am also positive that this is not only a problem in player accounts, but in affiliate accounts as well.

This is statement is written on their website:

“Our clients can be confident that any transaction you make online, as well as your personal data, will remain completely confidential.”

    🙁

BetCris keeps pretending to have done nothing wrong. There are no further developments at this point, but I also have not done much about this case anymore lately.
If BetCris believes that it is okay to hand out personal information to a person that does not possess any proof to be me, they will have to carry the consequences as well! This problem is far from being done with.

It is all to easy to call BetCris/Bookmaker and retrieve your USERNAME and PASSWORD. Quite frankly, with someones name alone I think that I might be able to get it. Call yourself and see!

There again has not been any progress with this dispute and the holidays are around the corner. The bottomline is that BetCris never answered essential questions and ignored any accusations.

Anyways, ICEI will come up soon and I will make sure to reserve some time to roll up this problem again and bring it to the attention of various people and companies. -After all BetCris still claim their security standards to be “private and confidential”.

I also noted that they were sponsoring at the IGCE conference in Costa Rica last year. The next IGCE will take place in April so it might be interesting to join and see who is around in Lisbon.

Stay tuned in this thread for further developments.

CAP and ICE-I are around the corner. Both of these events will provide good opportunities to name and shame this operator for what they are doing!
It is only a question of time until the next case of poor security standards at BetCris will cause another victim much harm, as nothing has still changed
Anyone is free to call Cris themselves and find out how easy it is to obtain another person’s account# AND email, simply by providing his name, address and perhaps date of birth.
I can only repeat myself here but will make sure to spread out the word…!

its a shame that they are ignoring this thread instead of just dealing with it and closing the thread on good terms. This will only keep affiliates and players away.

ICEI will start in just a couple days from where I will take any opportunity to expose this sportsbook & casino for what they have done!
I have not thought of a specific strategy to approach them yet, so I will have to see what can be done.
    Shame on you, BetCris!

I will also post a summary of this case on my website soon, so stay tuned…

Tribun, I’m a bit confused by all this. With sportsbooks, it’s normal for passwords to be asked for as it’s normally needed for calling in wagers. This is unlike casino accounts where passwords are almost always encrypted (apart from RTG software). What do BetCris actually require to retrieve a password? Do they do it over the phone?

Another thing I’m confused about is that any transfers would be under your name (as BetCris mentioned) but you seem to have said that SkyBook won’t give you access to your account (for some reason you are saying you don’t know what name it is under but it would have to be under your name according to BetCris). The money should all be there in SkyBook.

The only problem would be the wagers the unauthorised person placed in the your accounts at the books (any transfers would not be a problem as it would be in your name). Did the total wagers result in a a $17k loss? Also, the player seems to have won $7k in poker or was that you?

    Hi Sirius,

The problem did not get caused because they accepted someones password, but because they provided my account number and password to someone without requesting ANY security documents from this person!

This thread has become quite lenghty by now, but I will make sure it stays on top of various forum and websites until it has been fairly resolved.

It can not be that a sportsbook (or casino) hands out this sort of information to a person that is not me, especially after I had already talked to them for more than an hour on telephone after I became aware of the issue.

Again… BetCris only requested the name, address, email and d.o.b. from the person that claimed to be me and then provided allinformation in order to withdraw funds from my account to Skybook.

Skybook now does not want to confirm if the account where the money was sent to was in my name or not due to “privacy reasons”. Their manager told me that “BetCris would have all information about this case”, but so far they have not been willing to provide any answers to my questions.

I have not placed a single bet at BetCris anymore since the day this matter arose, around half a year ago. None of the transfers or Poker play had anything to do with me and I am ~US$17.000 short ever since.

Anyways, I arrived in London last night and am looking forward to collect more information about how to proceed with this case from now.

    edited to add:

I may have jumped the gun. are large cash transfers allowed from one casino account to another if they are in different names? ifso then disregard what i wrote below. otherwise this should be easy to figure out if the two casinos are truly willing to get to the bottom of it.

    Hi all,

well this is the EXACT kind of attitude that makes all online gambling establishments look bad.

Now the casino seems to be willing to have someone look at their backlog ….. whatever.

What should be done is so very freakin’ simple and outrages me that this casino has not chosen to do the obvious.

Freeze the damn account the minute someone with proper credentials contacts the casino and says there is a problem.

Now I’m no Sherlock Holmes but I would guess the next step is to go about contacting the two parties claiming ownership to the account with the email that they signed up with ….. and see who replies?

again…..I’m no expert casino security agent or anything like those rocket scientists ……

Com’on! How easy this could have been addressed instead the casino automatically jumps to the conclusion that it isn’t wrong…… that this person is trying to …. scam them?

okay…… lets say that’s right. So where was the money sent? Geez! This should be simple enough to accomplish.

follow the money. Follow it whether it was lost to another player in a poker game…… or transferred to another account.

If this other account belongs to the same owner as the previous …. which it damn sure should ……. then why can’t this same owner be told of the log in information to the account where the money was transferred?

I’m not saying the casino is trying to steal the money but by its very arrogance it is doing as much as stealing the money.

Stop being so secretive with information that is suppose to belong to the same person!

and you know what blows my mind most? is that they are handing out the log info over the phone with such ease but won’t pass along the log info to an account that although belongs to a different establishment ….. is trusted enough to transfer the money out of that players account into the other account …..

if nothing else the two casinos should be able to communicate well enough to establish that both accounts are in the same name and therefore the two casinos should work together to get that new log info to Tribun and also because if there is a problem to prevent it from happening again.

The whole thing stinks and being an arrogant little snot by stating we will provide back log stats is not enough to satisfy myself and I doubt many others.

The ignorance shown on such a technological driven means of communication almost boggles my mind sometimes.

    to simplify:

see where the money went? if it went into an account that doesn’t have Tribun’s name on it….. and information to match that at the original place from where the money was transferred….. freeze the account and investigate it until you find out what is going on? don’t just assume Tribun is lying.

if money is attempted to be withdrawn from the account where the money was transfered and its not going to the same place where Tribun withdraws from his original account …..I’d guess you’ve found your guilty party.

Thanks for the good post, bb!

BetCris is not cooperating in this matter at all as they are aware that their mistakes eventually lead to this desaster, which cost me $17.000.

Had they done some standard security checks about who was requesting this withdrawal, much harm could have been prevented and they would not find themselves in such negative spotlights as now.

I have raised many questions in this thread before, which all got ignored by the BetCris representative Scott and his staff. A few days ago moderator Warren kindly offered me his assistance with this dispute, so it will be interesting to see if BetCris cares to react after all.
Fact is, I will not let them get away with this and continue to bring this story to people’s attention until every possible person has been made aware of how poorly BetCris treats its customers!

I would also like to point out again that BetCris already admitted that “they know all details of the person the money was sent to”, but now refuse to hand it out to anyone! BetCris indeed provided me with the account# of the person’s account at Rio sportsbook, where the withdrawal was sent to. -Other than that they are not giving out any other details though.

Anyways, I will see what War can find out before taking this further.

    To be continued…

    wow… $17k in the hole… that really sucks…

After reading your side and theirs at great length and following the PM correspandance you had, here is what I would ask BETCRIS

Was the money wagered and lost? was the money withdrawn? This is important to know as if the money is wagered and lost then you may be able to argue to get the funds back?

Did you use the same computer everytime you wagered? hence you can argue a different IP address.

Can you get an old history of action of how much money you deposited and wagered? Basically proven what happenned was out of the norm for you.

Rather than getting anti towards them try making a counter offer such as asking them to give you the funds back with a small rollover requirement. See if this has happenned to other former BoS members and if so this is not an isolated case and you have a chance of getting somewhere.

Sportsbooks receive hundreds of calls a day saying they did not wager the amount when they did just to see what they can get back and BetCRIS probably has come across numerous cases like this. So you need to arm yourself with ammo if you plan to pursue this and work with them where you can.

Also in the future all of us need to protect our usernames and passwords and avoid using internet cafes, pubic access points, wifi etc when checking stats, gambling, online banking etc…

This is my two cents and my opinion on this.

Trib I’ve already written the story but I haven’t put any names in the article yet. The story stays but I guess its up to the casino in question to do the right thing or see its name in an unpleasant light.

I imagine more stories will pop up than just mine.

    Please keep us informed.
