WordPress comments spam

pjotter asked 3 years ago
Having a WordPress site, I have probably had thousands of spam comments – many each day.

They are of course caught as spam comments by Akismet and I will have to approve them, if they were to be published on my site. Of course I just delete them, but it takes some of my precious time once in a while.

I don’t understand what it achieved by posting all these spam posts about medicine etc. etc. I can’t imagine anyone would approve them, so what is the purpose?

I have received very few “real” comments, so I closed the option of commenting, but I am not sure if that is the right thing to do…

I have the comments set to admin approval so none of them ever get posted, but its a daily task going in and trashing them all just the same. Its amazing what some idiots out there will try to get posted on someone elses sites.

I activated this too, but yes still takes time to delete all the BS.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, that button !

The one on the top right that says ‘Screen Options’.

Then I clicked on ‘Show on screen’ and set it to 500
But got this error
“Request-URI Too Large, The requested URL’s length exceeds the capacity limit for this server”

But it does work at 200.
Much better than trashing 20 spam comments at a time.

Thanks
