You have affiliate marketing questions. CAP has answers!Category: Polls & SurveysTier Programs – Are they important to you?

Recently I was approached to sign up and promote a casino and while grabbing creatives I did not see a tier link so I asked why there was no tier program when others with the same software type has one. I also stated that I personally don’t target tier affiliates very often, but I would like to have the option available.

When I mentioned that the lack of a tier program may turn away some affiliates, I was very surprised to find out the following view of the AM:

try be on the other side for a second……..If you owned a casino and you can get affiliates by yourself .then you would pay them what they deserve but if you give it to others to do then you would pay more.
What would you pick

basically if you open a tier and bring in john doe which i can also get to it means i pay both of you XX% and an extra X% tier where if i do it alone i pay just the XX%

in the end of the day from my experience the biggest affiliates dont care about anything besides getting paid on time. they also dont have time for tiers. they just want to know that conversiona nd retension is high

What do you think?

I think his response is a bit short-sighted; it doesn’t make much sense.

He assumes that he would have access to every affiliate that you know, which just isn’t the case. New people enter this industry every day, and he certainly doesn’t have access to all of those people.

If you owned a casino and you can get affiliates by yourself .then you would pay them what they deserve but if you give it to others to do then you would pay more.

Well, duh… Geez. :banger:

Using this logic, why do they even bother with an affiliate program, then? Why not just go after the players directly?

I wonder if this program is CAP certified? If so, then they have just contradicted themselves — because by paying certification / listing fees to CAP, they are actually engaging in the very practice that they said they didn’t want to engage in! :roflmao:

If a program has a tiered referral system, that’s great, but if they don’t, it isn’t a deal-breaker for me. For now, I mainly target players (not other webmasters), so the lack of a second tier isn’t a big deal to me. If I ever build a casino “affiliate” site, then this will be important to me, but for now, it isn’t.

This is a good thread – I do get asked alot of about tiers for bringing in a certain amount of sub-affiliates etc.

We try and offer them what we see as competitive in the industry – obviously there are cases that need special attention.

More views and thoughts on the importance of this would give me (and I am sure, other AMs) a good picture of how we should compensate affiliates for referring their fellow webmasters.

Thanks Chris,

I told this AM that they had given me my first poll question to ask and thanked him for that. LOL

Both him and myself would be interested to see more views and votes.

The only way I can see the AM’s point of view on this is where you see those great chains of affiliates signing up under each other which does mean that program is paying more if those affiliates were going to sign up anyway –

E.G. I open amazingcasino.com and all 80% of you are about to sign up with me but see a thread where affililiates are signing up under each other – In that case I would be cheesed off becasue as an AM I am now paying extra comission when I shouldn’t be – If on teh otherhand there is an affiliate actively recruiting me affiliates through what ever means then of course that guy has to be rewarded.

I think its an important function to have in your program but maybe needs to be managed correctly

Alex, you make a good point here – I believe sub-affiliate commission is important due to the small nature of our business. Affiliates will tend to ask other affiliates (that they know via conferences, link exchanges etc) for their opinion regarding conversions, payout times etc.

It’s only normal we pay them a decent % but as you said, it needs to be monitored closely.

I think tier programs are very important and there are a few micros programs out there that don’t offer a tier set up and it annoys me.
