Maybe your readers or your link exchange partners not reciprocated, arranged, paid for, place by you, place by some other site or the person you hired. the links to your site are meant to be given, willingly, by people that found your site, and enjoyed it.

i think google absolutely discounts / ignores some backlinks that yahoo considers. the ability to successfully parse ‘bad’ or ‘spam’ links is probably one of the reasons google returns better results than yahoo.

but yeah, searching for a site’s backlinks using link: in google is pretty useless. I like yahoo site explorer, will have to give open site explorer a try.

The backlinks from your site with higher PR is helpful but building up backlinks from all the sources makes the link building more natural for any given sites character in the Search Engines.
