Thanks Jillo.

The Link Building Basics article was great. It also has some good resource links to other SEO tips like the “50+ Tools to Automate Your Link Building”

Links and content – that’s what it is about!

Link Building/DEV is not something you can automate (much) .. it really requires manual effort if you want quality. I know inexpensive link building packages can pass equity, but they won’t always and will eventually get you into trouble …

Hey Scott… thanks for chiming in and sharing this info… Always super appreciated.

From your expertise, when it does come to Link Building, what would you say are your top 3 tips for iGaming affiliates to focus on to have the most successful go- especially in a post-Penguin setting?

1) Link Development is about relationships
2) Site wide Relevance is important not just page level
3) Location, Location, Location – stay away from sitewides, footer and sidebar links … they are easy to identify
4) Exact Match Anchor Text is on the decline … think Natural/Organic anchor text, Use URLs, Brand and Call to Actions more
5) Pages that link to you … SEO them
6) Design Chaos or you will get identified

Speaking to #4 on Scotts list above, have your optimized phrase near the link.

Hi Scott,

In regards to #4, a lot has been said about having around 8-10% of your link building activities to natural organic links, i.e ‘click here’, ‘vist the site’ etc.. is that true or do you think that the % should be a lot higher?

scottpolk answered 3 years ago
@bingofind

The answer to #4 honestly is not as simply as a percentage … you really need to look at the competition set to assist with this direction.

I personally like to see a much higher percentage with CTA “Call to Action” anchor text links as this is more natural; but this depends on the research. Also, try to plan for the future … exact match is over used considerably within gaming, but it still has value. You can also mix keywords with CTA and Brand as anchors …

“keyword” @ Brand
“keyword” via Brand
Discover “keyword” from Brand
CTA for “keyword” @ Brand

Using the examples above you can still mix your keywords into longer anchors and still pass the anchor equity to the page you are linking to. Be creative …

URLs are also able to pass anchor equity:
Find the best domain names to register
This passed anchor equity (in its simplest form) with “bingo brand” “keyword keyword” – this is another benefit of using SEO/User friendly URL structures.

Scott, Thank you for your great response! I was wondering about #3, Location, Location, Location. You state to stay away from footer, sidebar, and sitewides. Could you explain further please?
