How important is fresh content on inner pages

HVDB asked 3 years ago
I’m wondering if fresh content on inner pages is important if you want certain inner pages to rank well in google. I have numerous inner pages that are optimized for certain keywords (for example certain game rules or reviews) for which I seek good rankings.

Of course, I try to find incoming links for these inner pages, this helps a lot. However, I’m not sure if it is really required to update these inner pages once in a while. I’ve heared from others that it is not important because it is natural that an article will remain the same for a long period of time. For example: the roulette rules don’t change so if you already describe every aspect in your article there is no need at all to change it..

I’m not convinced since I sometimes do see an increase in rankings after updating an inner page. What are your experiences with this? Is it important or not?

I thought about adding news headlines to the inner pages. This would mean that I would add the latest 5 news headlines (of news shown elsewhere on my site) to each article, they would change automatically since new news articles are added frequently. This would facilitate fresh content on the inner pages but it would not always be relevant. Another approach would be to view 5 headlines of random news articles, this way the inner pages would be somewhat different on each pageview. However, I’m not sure if either of these approaches would help me or if it would only hurt my rankings. Anyone who has some ideas on this?

not massively important imo.. Google is more likely to archive static content imo, however having some dynamic content on your page won’t be detrimental.

IMO Just try to get 20-50 good BLs to your inner pages from different related niche domains, and you should see the pages pop up (if you are doing this right) when you simply type your domainname into google (no site: operator). Obv if the anchor in the BLs contains your keyword, all the better.

Perhaps not important for SEO … but hugely important if you want repeat visitors.

A couple of things spring to mind …

Updated bonuses? Tournament details? Promotional efforts?

Things change in the industry all the time – and we check and update all our reviews and bonus details for EVERY site once per month.

Whether or not a specific page needs fresh content on it depends on the nature of the page. If you have a page about “seven card stud poker rules”, then no, you probably don’t need to be adding fresh content to that page all the time. Some pages are static because the article doesn’t need to change.

On the other hand, if you have a page about “WSOP winners”, then that page would need to be updated at least once a year so that you could add the new winners.

And if you had a page about “poker news”, then that might need to be updated daily or even several times a day.
