allinanchor serp predictor

owldeath2 asked 3 years ago
I’m considering buying a site off someone. It is a good domain name and the site is good quality with many many backlinks, but it ranks 450ish for the keywords it targets. With allinanchor it gets first page rankings. How accurate is allinanchor as a predictor of how the site will rank when it is no longer sandboxed? It has been in 8 months so far….

Two bits of advice.

First, the allinanchor is a definite indicator of where the site will rank once out of the sandbox. If you are seeing an allinanchor of #1 and real rankings at 450, it is buried in the sandbox. The previous post about 450 equalling out of the sandbox is not true. Gambling sites do seem to spend a very long time in the sandbox, we are out for a few less competitive terms, slowly coming out for the medium competitive terms and buried for the very competitive terms. 2 years and counting BTW.

Second, in the case of duplicate content, it’s not the case that the originating site gets credit for the content. Google will assign the owner of the content based on the strength of the sites containing the content. So, if the offending site is stronger, then they would get the credit for it, and your site could potentially have the duplicate pages removed from the index. If the pages in question are cached by Google then you should be fine.

Well if you’re certain, then that is a serious issue… would have to reconsider…

Well it isn’t my site at the moment – just trying to assess the value in light of this… if this is indeed the problem and not just a sandbox issue.

if its only the index page, maybe change the content
and fill out a re-inclusion requesy on googlr webmastertools/sitemap

(first upload a sitemap there, if you havent yet)

Thanks for looking… I would have thought it would be penalised for all terms not just the main one if there was a copying issue…

It has been copied I notice, just the once – but they should get the penalty not the original surely? I’ve had several sites copied before and not noticed any penalties.
