Do you have a DMOZ listing?

jonitas asked 3 years ago
Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many of you are listed in a directory like DMOZ and Yahoo!

statement: ‘In a tough market like gambling such a listing is essential.’
How about that? Do you rank good even without being listed?

Good luck with the linkbuilding, site submitting…

Getting a gambling portal into DMOZ takes an act of congress unless you are a purely informational site with no visible affiliate links or banners.

Yep that’s about the sum of it. Though imo we’ve got no one else to thank except spammers.

Adding I don’t think dmoz has the value as it did a few years back. Though it would be nice just to get there for getting there sake

I was added then removed .. long story but its a bunch of crap as the gambling section of dmoz is run by the dmoz mob.. you can get in a weak section but i was added by an editor in the chats and forums.. removed by the mob and got a lot of good ingo that will keep me away from working at it.

I agree! Four years ago, we tried to get one of our retail sites listed in dmoz. After three years of trying we finally gave up. They would accidently delete the submission request, apologize and promise to get to it within the next couple of months. They kept making mistakes and continued to tell us to wait a few months and check back. We heard this over and over for three years! After some frustration I happened to voice my dissatisfaction with how they were operating their submission process and out of spite, one of the editors went in and deleted the other two of our other sites which had already been listed with them for years! I was never once nasty to them – this just goes to show the power the editors have in making decisions. I used to be a dmoz editor. I know how disorganized things were and nobody to watch over what other editors were doing. There just simply wasn’t enough help and no supervision!

I know there are benefits to being listed with them as they feed several other directories. Why something has not been done about this for so long is beyond me…

Actually, there are hundreds of sites that use the dmoz feed so you are getting hundreds of links Is it a good thing? Yes! Is it death if you are not listed? Hell no!

I wanna know how much of an advantage DMOZ listing really gives you in google… I think it is very overrated… I mean it’s just one link.

BTW everytime you submit your site you thought they forgot about, you get reset and sent to the very back of the editors list… just f.y.i

There are a few good nitch casino directories out there, but thay are very few and far between. The good ones are more focused on providing the users usefull content than on promoting the casinos, so most casino sites don’t make it into these nitch directories.
