Best WordPress Plugins?

pjotter asked 3 years ago
I am addicted to WordPress as I can see quite a few other affiliates are…

It’s been a while since I last installed a new site, but back then I found a couple of must-have plugins:

Akismet – against spam comments
All in One SEO Pack – SEO possibilities
GD Star Rating – rating of posts and pages
Google XML Sitemaps – sitemap management
Redirection – link management etc.
Pretty Link – link management etc.

I haven’t really found new must-have plugins. Do you use other plugins than the above mentioned?

Just a general warning to anyone using WP’s all in one SEO. Go into the settings and check Use noindex for Tag Archives:. I was seeing way too many SERP results and they were ranking higher than the pages. They also had empty title and description meta tags.

I also found an issue with a plugin named Global Translator. It would translate the pages and Title tags but wouldn’t translate the description and keyword meta tags. This resulted in duplicate meta descriptions and keywords.

Will let you all know if I see major changes in traffic.

I noticed that too with my sites. Why isn’t that a good thing.
I’ve had traffic come in on those tags.

It not bad at all on smaller sites but now imagine a site with thousands of tags. You end up with thousands of pages with duplicate content and almost no value.

Also, are your tag pages the pages you want your visitors to reach first?

Your tag, can out rank the content page for that tag.

So if you have a page about “casino bonuses” and that is the keyword you are targeting, and you tag that page with “casino bonuses”

your tag can appear higher in the serps then the actual page “casino bonuses” (usually will appear just under your tag page in the SERPs.
