What sites do you promote at the moment?

The thing I find annoying is that some good programmes, where I know the managers etc, just don’t convert that well for me whilst other programmes which are seen as dodgy do very well. In that case which one do you go with? Personally I tend to stick with my gut instinct and say if if somethign does well stick with it but it is a tricky judgement call and you have to keep an eye on the stats all the time.

Please recommend your best cross-sell (sports, casino, poker…)program

From my end as an affiliate manager.

I know that sometimes things don’t always go smoothly ( we have all had an issue at one time or another)

I think the measure of a program is the ability to work with the affiliate and solve the problem when they come up. I know some programs have come and gone some have been burnt ( affiliates & affiliate programs) But on the whole I think if we use the phrase “if it’s to good to be true it is”

I know with my affiliate program our daily quote is ” no problems just solutions”
Communication is key – and it’s not always what you say it’s how you say it.

For example: “I think your program sucks and you are trying to scam me – the stats are way off.”
This type of email kills me – we are already on the defensive. And solving this issue is sooooo tough. We do pride ourselves on our clean tracking.

The real email is: I am having a tracking issue and one of my trackers are not working right. This type of email is easy to work with and we can have that fixed.

I love working with affiliates and enjoy my career.
I am also so happy that there is this type of forum so we can all comunicate better and learn from each other.

I think that forums like this are a great way to work together as partners in a great and fun indistry.

I think Cap also does a great job calling out bad programs.

    My 2 cents:)

I think you are taking it the wrong way and I probably should have spelled it out a little better.

Example is CasinoX, they have a reputation for converting and retaining with no issues. So you try them and get 20 new depositing players in your first month but are negative because one person won 4k so you get no commission for that month. If you are going to say I didn’t make any money off of this one program then you could be throwing away a program that could find you some gem players. This is why I am echoing what Gooner said for the 3-6 months. I mean first find a program that has a decent reputation to begin with and try them out.

I was chatting with one affiliate recently about this. He said he wasn’t happy with the stats this month for a specific program but I said that program has a good rep and most affiliates are happy promoting them.

When you first promote any casino program there are a lot of signup bonuses given out. Your first month might not indicate how well these players are going to perform. Who knows the next month could have a whale in the next batch of players you have while the players generated from last month are generating more income while taking regular incentives and not highly loaded signup bonuses.

One last comment, this is assuming you have legit stats to begin with. I mean in the first month you should have a certain # of downloads given the amount of impressions and clicks you send, which should correlate to a certain number of signups. If you send a lot of traffic and you don’t see any signups then you don’t need any more than 1 month to make a decision here as long as you have a large enough sample to know if this program even converts or not.

I think what alot of affiliates are scared of is regulations in the US because they think the big companies will monopolize and offer low percentages. However, I think regulation is the answer to all of these problems. It is my firm belief that no one is seeing real stats, that players are constantly taken from us, and that if there were regulations where regular audits were taking place and these companies were held accountable for these corrupt actions we would all see our revenue stream skyrocket, even with lower percentages.

Regarding trust and the stats.. I think the best way for you to know is to test the stats yourself.

I’ve had affs in the past come at me with the same email so many times, and my response is – Why do you think the stats are way off? Lets test the stats together.

Regarding conversions, what works for one aff may not work for another, which is why you see some threads where one aff says they are doing great with a program, and another aff will post they are not doing so great with the same program. The best way to find out which brands are best for you is to test and rotate the brands on your site. Find out which one converts best in each position and go with that. Other affiliates can suggest their top earners until the cows come home, but what works for them may not work for you and vice versa..

    So, conclusion… TEST TEST TEST!

It’s hard to test when the problem could be with long term players, or high roller players, who mysteriously disappear. It’s easy to test signups and conversions, but that may not be the problem. It’s also hard to trust ANY program when you know for a fact that MANY programs have been disreputable in the past.

You’re right, unless you know the player or have contact with the player, that part is hard to test. There’s no easy solution to that one.

My question to you is, do you feel this way about all industries, or just ours?

The eCogra seal has just come out for affiliate programs… Would you have the same thoughts if the program was eCogra approved?

There are other industries that I would be worried about, like the porn industry (also unregulated), but mainly this one, and mainly because I have first hand knowledge of sh-t that goes on.

Also, eCogra is garbage. Before this year they simply were an organization that allowed only Microgaming branded casinos into their list and most likely were paid a large sum of money to do so. I doubt they denied membership or had any problems with any casinos unless a problem became public and they had no choice but to make a stand in order to save face.

I think this industry is way too big and competitive for everyone to be in cahoots. Also, in your scenario, where everyone takes players off affiliates, surely a honest aff program would stand out among others, and surely other programs would see the good pr, and popularity of this program, and follow suit?

I think this industry has enough big and honest programs for affiliates to feel fairly safe and comfortable in choosing their partners.

Obviously there are bad apples, but more often than not they get exposed to some degree, and whoever chooses to continue with them, do so at their own risk.
