InactiveThere will never be a concrete answer to this – I think you need to balance your experience with this person/program along with other’s experiences (easily found on CAP) and any industry news or information you can find on the web and then make an educated guess although you will never really know so don’t stress too much

InactiveAs a student of numbers it pays to realise that “weird sh!t can happen” to affiliate stats from time to time. So while I like intuition – I will also not make an immediate decision.
Generally, I’ll give any program I’m trailing or working with at least 3-6 months to let numbers settle out and come closer to the “average” that I expect for my site.
After that, if I’m still not happy with the numbers, and my profit levels are not where I expect them to be … THEN I will leave the program.
I really don’t care about the reasons or the excuses … if the bottom line profits are not what I want/need then I will not continue with a program.
Eventually, after a couple of years of this you will find that you are working only with programs which are regularly paying a good return.

Simply get rid of them as soon as possible.October 28, 2008 at 11:22 am #784342Anonymous
InactiveIf you dont make any money (or making very little compared to the other programs) with the program, but you earn with other programs on the same site. Stop promoting it, remove all banners and forget it.

???
You find it by working with several affiliate programs. Average returns and low/high marks can then be determined … and a fair return for your site estimated … all thins being equal.
Every affiliate site is different. Different style, different content, different marketting, different visitors.

ClubContMemberI think a few things could help. See which programs are being promoted by some of the top affiliates or the ones who have been around the longest. After that I think it helps to have other affiliates as friends to bounce stats and numbers off of. I do think 3 to 6 months is enough time to judge the affiliate program. If you only judge it off of the first month you could end up cutting off your potential top programs.

I like this saying! It is very true, what works well for one affiliate does not translate to another affiliate.
Do affiliates and affiliate managers have better ways to work together ?
I think a way to improve the communication for both parties is to outline the goals and expectations in the first few emails as well as develop a personal relationship for both parties.

I agree with this. Also, programs seem to fluctuate quite a bit, this month’s best can suck next month and bloom again the month after when retention kicks in. It takes some time to get an idea of overall performance.
