Enough said…
“It’s also intended to aid the political fortunes of Republicans who are worried about losing control of the House of Representatives in the November election. Last month, House Republican leaders announced that the bill would be part of a 10-part “American Values Agenda,” along with a constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage and further restrictions on stem cell research.”

I can only hope that they lay it on so thick that even the most aloof citizens get alarmed.
July 12, 2006 at 2:06 am #698307AnonymousInactiveJust wached Foxnews and they said ” They past the bill but it has to go 1st thru the Senate and is not a top priority”
July 12, 2006 at 12:00 pm #698327AnonymousInactivenot sure if they[politicians] think this way but can they govern without hipocracy? How are they going to prosecute 30 million americans who play online.
There are just too many variables that they don’t seem to consider
July 12, 2006 at 10:09 pm #698399AnonymousInactiveIts all rubbish anyway. All 4411 does is re-inforce the bank Wire ACt bu restricting banking methods.
A) It doesn’t appear to affect e-wallets
How the hell are banks going to check every transaction
C) Gaming companies will just use 3rd party providers to disguise the fact
D) It still has to go through Senate and the guy at the topand
E) We’re not even onto 4777 yet.
Long long way to go before this has any, if any, effect IMO.
If this was the only thing in the bill I wouldn’t be scared. I don’t think anybody has been able to make a gambling deposit for about 3 years now with a credit card.
What scares me is the part that says they’re going to have Internet providers block ISP addresses of gaming sites.
This scares the hell out of me for a million reasons. Not only will gaming sites be blocked but what about affiliate sites that we all run? What about finding any information on the net about gambling? This to me looks like a blatant violation of the 1st amendment and it doesn’t look like any of the legislators care.
With all the crap that’s on the Internet I can’t believe gambling would be the first thing they would go after. There’s child porn on the net, hell I seen a website taking you step by step on how to get away with murder. But hey, let’s go after Poker, what a bunch of shit!!!!

All the casinos I attempted to deposit with, I was successful. Obviously, the banks (at least some of them) have eased up on these restrictions (money talks with bankers, after all).
This is an attempt to ressurect the “Contract with America” used by Newt Gingrich some years ago when the Repubs took over the House and Senate. There are diehards who will “drink the koolaid” regardless, but I think most people are more concerned about their pockets than they are about who is sleeping with whom right now. Certainly, I can’t see the Senate making a push to pass this legislation. House Repubs are doing this for the sake of trying to get re-elected in November.
FYI, House members stand for re-election every two years, but Senators are elected for six years, so only 1/3 of them have to stand this year. Not enough Republican Senators are in jeopardy to force a vote on something like this.

I didn’t know this. After I got my neteller set up and that’s where I keep my bankroll I havn’t had a need to even try a credit card deposit.
I actually thought it was already illegal to make a credit card deposit. That’s why I thought that part being in the bill really had no impact. I still don’t think that part of it will be that much of an impact.
July 13, 2006 at 4:29 pm #698448AnonymousInactiveHR 4411 isn’t limited to credit cards. It would also cover bank transfers. It is likely that bank transfers to and from Neteller would be prohibited if it passes.

There’s going to be a massive congressional investigation of online gambling and they’re going to shut it down. And when they get done with that, they’re going to look into this North Korean thing.”

July 14, 2006 at 1:39 am #698518AnonymousInactiveHR 4411 is dead in the water. Mark my words.
It was simply a way for the repubicans to pander to their base and distance themselves from all the money they got from Abramoff and the Gambling lobby. They know that corruption is going to be a issue for them in November and this is a way to spin/fool the public that they are not in bed with Gambling lobbys.
House republicans will say they tried to get legislation through but the Senate (Which is more evenly balanced) stonwalled due to the Democrats.
Gaming Stocks in london rallied (party gaming, etc)after the house bill passed with the exception of Neteller which shed 8%. To me, that market reaction would indicate that regulation is more likely.

I agree. They have made their statement now.
July 14, 2006 at 2:08 am #698522AnonymousInactiveTrying to follow this thread in an attempt to understand. Being non-American I don’t have the slightest clue how the politicians can get away with this. Its’ no wonder most Americans are so uptight these days! Governments poking around into people’s private lives, most shameful.
So has online gambling been banned in the U.S? What’s the impact for us webmasters?
I would love to see Michael Moore do a story on this! greek39
July 14, 2006 at 3:13 am #698538AnonymousInactiveI am actually curious as to where I can find those stock price stats on the internet? I am unsure of what the ticker symbols are and exactly what exchange they are on. Could somebody fill me in?
Also, I totally missed the whole voting thing today, but it sounds pretty normal to me. All they are doing is enhancing their control over us citizens. I know that the US is “the land of the free” but I’d really prefer to move over to London or some where like that.
