Everything is on target and the senate will drop it as usual.Exactly; I agree.
July 11, 2006 at 7:29 pm #698257AnonymousInactiveI like your confidence Dom. Hope you are right.
July 11, 2006 at 7:33 pm #698261AnonymousInactiveI’ve been watching this for too many years now, and I understand enough about how it really works.
The house is an easy thing to pass, everything changes before it hits the senate.
July 11, 2006 at 7:34 pm #698262AnonymousInactiveIt was interesting to watch. I went on with things as normal to wait till tomorrow but… I still have a bad feeling about it. Its the REP. that are running the country with a firm grip.
I hope your right Dom.
The Rep. seem very clear about not taking any kind of outside interests (or money to some) into consideration (wow that hurt my brain to type that).
I think its all a bunch of shit.July 11, 2006 at 7:36 pm #698264AnonymousInactiveDominique, you said you’ve seen this happen before. Does anyone have links/info about exactly what has gone on in the past? When did a similar bill pass the house? Has it happened more than once? Time between passage of the house bill/debate by the Senate? Or did it even get that far? Will they have to reconcile the Kyl bill?
Good lord.
Oh, also, can anyone clarify the 2/3 vs. simple majority thing for the senate vote?

I don’t have time to google it but yes, search within the last 6 years, and I think usually it doesn’t even make it to the floor on time.
July 11, 2006 at 7:50 pm #698272AnonymousInactiveOk, according to this link:
http://www.internetnews.com/ec-news/article.php/2220141
The house has passed a similar bill at least twice (in 2003 and 2002), but it has yet to pass the Senate. So Dominique’s right, this is not at all unprecendented. But you never know. Argh.
July 11, 2006 at 8:06 pm #698276AnonymousInactiveWhile I agree that the fat lady has yet to sing, this is not the exact same as previous years. The differences between today’s bills compared to previous bills and how they relate to today’s environment are immense.
To simply think that since it failed before that it will fail again is IMO not an informed nor wise opinion. Way too many differences this time around, and sadly this time I think this is all but a done deal.
And considering the lack of opposition the Washington State bill received, I think those in our position are in for a long hard ride.

July 11, 2006 at 8:34 pm #698279AnonymousInactiveHey Everyone,
The House vote made front page of my local newspaper today. The article made it sound like online gambling was already illegal for US citizens. Along with the slower summer months, this is diffinately not good for business. As far as this making it to the Senate and passing and becoming law remains to be seen. Still there is always a chance either way. If it does make it to the Senate I believe this bill will pass this time around. Let’s all hope that the Senate is over loaded with more important bills to vote on.July 11, 2006 at 8:50 pm #698281AnonymousInactiveHey Cappy, nice to see you around. I hope you are having a good summer break.
I have been watching MSNBC and they did a brief story on the bill. They said that the bill is unlikely to pass the Senate this year, as it is not a priority of the Republican majority there.
They did not cite their source on that, but I don’t think that they would have said that without some good reason. So everyone should pick their heads up for now. I have been through the Chicken Little thing for nearly 9 years now and, although some say it is, the sky is not falling yet.
In the meantime, start focusing on other markets just in case and pick up a few non-gambling affiliate programs to promote :o) Chances are that we are ok for now though.
BTW, I got something for Goodlatte, Boucher, and Leach…

I don’t appreciate you trying to pick my pocket! :nono: You guys are full of :bullshit: :bullshit:
July 11, 2006 at 9:26 pm #698286AnonymousInactiveWallstreet doesn’t want it to pass, even many of the tribes don’t want it to pass anymore.
Vegas has a task force of it’s own talking about how to accredit internet casinos.
Millions of Americans think poker is what it’s all about.
The politicians are just covering their axxes, looking fiercly determined to stomp out this vice and failing through no fault of theirs.
July 11, 2006 at 10:06 pm #698289AnonymousInactiveWell, we have a “moral” House of Reps right now but we also have an election coming up soon…this should set the stage for moving toward regulation, not banning, of online gaming. Think evolution not prohibition….
July 11, 2006 at 10:16 pm #698290AnonymousInactiveI wish I could share Dom’s confidence on this one. But for some reason I have a bad feeling about this one. I was surprised how many Dem’s actually voted for it. That was a little dishearting.
