vladcizsolMemberYep this looks like a really bad one too.
I keep hoping it will swing north. If it has to hit Florida lets hope it takes Jacksonville instead of Miami or Cocoa Beach or Orlando.

InactiveI just got all cleaned up from Charley……..now Frances!
This one is going to be much worst. I am boarding up the widows tonight and tomorrow.
Praying it goes further north, but I have a Daughter in Jacksonville.
I have airline tickets to go to Mich Friday morning and returning Monday if there is anything left.
Kennedy Space center will be under water where I work. I won’t be working there for a while. I might have to work on my websites from Mich.
I live on the east coast close to the Kennedy Space Center.
Pray for us here in Florida.
Good luck Professor, Pitboss, and talkcasinos!September 1, 2004 at 11:59 am #654189
vladcizsolMemberOk I am changing my vote from Jacksonville to rural Georgia.

vladcizsolMemberWell from the looks of this one I am not sure what we can do.
One of the most horrifying things I heard yesterday is this storm is very slow moving. One of the good things about Charley was he flew thru Florida in a total of 2 hours. They are saying Frances will take 20 Hours!!!!!! I cant imagine much that can stand up to 140+ mph winds for more then an hour. This one will likely do more damage then Andrew and having seen what Andrew did to Homestead I am scared.
Today I am going to go buy more water, soup, propane and gas up all the vehicles. I am also going to buy a new pet carrier for my cat and put him in it when the storm hits. If the house gets knocked down I dont want to lose him.
Oh and I am praying alot too.

InactiveThey’re saying it could turn into a category 5. Best wishes for all in Florida and the Bahamas.
Just a question. Is it common for Florida residents to have a small diesel generator? They would come in really handy during these times
September 1, 2004 at 12:45 pm #654196
vladcizsolMemberGenerators are selling at a brisk pace, but most people do not have one. When power is lost for more then 24 hours a generator loses its effectiveness as its difficult to keep enough fuel on hand to keep it going.
The other problem is if you have the generator outside during a hurricane it can be damaged or blown over and cause a fire. If you have it inside and run it you can poison everyone in the house with Carbon Monoxide. Quite a few people (over 100 in Orlando) were hospitalized for this during Charley.
PS: It almost surely will be a category 5 by the time it gets here as it will be moving slowly over warmer waters soon which will stregthen it. Also there are no other weather systems in the area that will shear it. This is ideal conditions for a hurricane and I expect we will be looking at 165+ mph sustained winds at impact.

InactiveI looks like all hell’s going to break loose! I live 12 miles west of the launch pads at Kennedy Space Center. I went through Donna in Miami (1960) and don’t want to go thru another one. Andrew was bad, but I agree with you that this one will be worst. Pray for us!

InactiveThis is just terrible!
Are you guys boarding everything up? Maybe it would be a good thing to publish some general guidelines for how to prepare here…

InactiveThe way this one will grow, there won’t be much left. It’s hard to get out of Florida because there is only two good roads out. I-95 and the Florida turnpike to I-75. If you leave to late, you will be in your car when the huricane hits. If you want leave, you need to get on the road with in the next 12 hours. Other wise you will be stuck!

InactiveMy advice is for all my Florida friends to take a road trip up north for a few days. This storm looks like it is going to be a killer to say the least. You can replace property, but you can’t replace your life. I will be praying for all.

InactiveHey Captain,
Did Virginia just got hammered by another tropical storm earlier this week?
To all our friends in Florida, please be careful and let’s hope this storm will slow down. Otherwise, you are all invited to drive up North to our office in Montreal for a special “Storm” party.
Take good care!
