KolyaMemberAlex –
Thank you for pointing this out. As noted in our rules, we typically allow a limited amount of PM’s for guest affiliate managers.

However, if this is turning out to be a problem, then we may have to re-evaluate.

neophyteMemberan opt out option for getting spammed by AMs in our profiles would suffice..
I wouldn’t mind SO much if i was even pushing bingo on my sites as their PM suggested – it’s just total coldcall hardsell in this case imo. and fwiw we’re not here to be bombarded with adverts that aren’t on the forums IMHO.

mikih34MemberWhats the big deal? And why you post the person’s personal info here? did you think for a moment before you posted this?
August 13, 2009 at 8:33 am #803073
BetsoftGamingMemberwe’ve all been there, well from this side of the fence anyways.
Sometimes you gotta try and hit as many people as you can without causing offence.
I still use PM to contact people, but I tend to introduce myself first if its a ‘cold call’, then offer up the intention of the message and ask to discuss further.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

InactiveChill Guys,
Someone is doing his/her job. If the person repeatedly spams and bugs you that is a different matter. But just one polite email is not that harmful and doesn’t deserve to be called names
Times have changed and I guess Aff managers should try the approach Martin suggests. This would be more fruitful. Please consider the amount of spam emails we all receive from programs trying to promote their products. If it wasn’t for these cold calls, our industry would have missed some of the best affiliates around today. We have all been there and I personally may have cold called/ prospected over half a mil websites/webmasters between 2002-04. I guess judging by this reaction, I should be sent for life :rollover:

WTF? i just posted an excerpt of the spam.. they posted their own details in the spam..
fwiw if people are wiling to act they should be willing to take account for their actions….August 14, 2009 at 1:27 am #803102
StarBucksSportsMemberOne of the drawcards CAP offer programs is access and contact to potential new affiliates.
Perhaps a members need to check a box to agree to be contacted by affiliate programs before they can join, otherwise that point would be moot.
I get hundreds of mails asking me whether I would like to advertise on this site or that, and I check it out, because it’s my job as an affiliate manager. Surely an aff manager asking you to take a look at their program isn’t that far away from your role, as an affiliate?
In my view: Industry related board, you’ll get industry related messages. If he sent it to your facebook, that would be SPAM imo.

they can contact affiliates on the forums, or via ads on the forums. if we can opt out of getting emails from cap and other users we should be able to opt out of getting retarded spam from affil managers who dont even have the mental nous to check if their product is in line with the sites the affiliate actually has.

InactiveSorry guys it is annoying but at the same time I am so use to just deleting and not reading them. But if they are not certified they have no right to pm members, if they are certified then I guess if they must do this then maybe they can be a bit more tactful. Alex could have also posted his complaint with a bit less emotion I think as well.

BetsoftGamingMemberI was contacted yesterday by an affiliate manager who has obviously used a bot to harvest email address and never bothered to clean it up. Their intention was not totally clear other than they wanted me to sign up to their program and send them players or I promote their brands to our players and affiliates for a kick back!
A number of mails were exchanged and they still didnt get that I was in the same position as them, looking for affiliates to work with, even after telling them. In the end I got this out of them…
From: XXXXXXXXX
Sent: 13 August 2009 15:04
To: CWC Affiliates Martyn
Subject: Re: Business partnership with XXXXXXXXXXX.com
Hi Martyn,I am aware of that. (That I was an affiliate manager)
I am interested in the traffic that you have at CWC. I wanted to know what it would take to receive your traffic/players?
Let me know how much $$ and how many players you can bring in Martyn?!
Thank you
Are they really trying to get me to advertise their brands to the players signed up at CWC and related brands?
Also this…
I am asking you to sign up and when you sign up you can take banners, link, landing pages, etc., and start advertising them on your clients’ sites. They will eventually be converting the depositing players for you and will earn money from the amount of players that you bring in monthly. I would like for you to please check this out for me. Networks have the same methods Martyn and they are able to work with there clients and bring in players from the hundreds of sites that are workable.
I received your address from search.
Two things on this, I am now glad that they explained to me how the affiliate model works. I slept so much better last night as a result.
And secondly, do they expect that I sell their brands to our affiliates for them?
I would lay off the Meth buddy. :Bong:

The reason Guest AMs have PM abilities (very small ones) is for them to handle aff complaints concerning their program. It is meant strictly to assist affiliates – CAP is a service to affiliates.
It is NOT meant to be used for advertising of any sort, and I think guest AMs who do not obey this rule should have the ability to send PMs removed – at least temporarily. :hattip:

This is a valid point.
As Martin pointed out in his post, we do receive loads of spam on the forum too. What these newbies/ simple minded
managers need to do is a bit of research before they cold call/ spam.Dominique wrote:The reason Guest AMs have PM abilities (very small ones) is for them to handle aff complaints concerning their program. I was not aware guests Aff managers are not allowed to PM. If this is the case, then it is wrong and needs to be addressed by the Admin.

InactiveYou read that wrong – or maybe I worded it badly.
Guest aff managers ARE allowed a very limited number of PMs – I think 10 or so – in order to address issues that affiliates may have with their program.
This is NOT supposed to be used for any type of solicitation. It is meant for the benefit of affiliates, so even programs that are not currently members for one reason or another can be adressed.
Using these privileges for spamming is NOT acceptable.
Member programs CAN send out offers via PM. It’s up to the affiliate to consider them or not.
I get offers on a regular basis, and either keep them for later possibilities or delete them, and occasionally take one up on the spot.
This I do not consider spam, I do want to stay informed on who offers what.
