Hey guys
Well I have just finished a long search around for my Macau trip and thought I’d try and pass on what I found – it may help. Obviously some of this is pertinent to UK residents. Its a little way away yet I know, but there are some good deals out there – I got 5 nights at the Venetian and flights all for £800 ($1600)!
The CAC 2007 Macau site: http://www.casinoaffiliateconvention.com/innerpage-macau.php
The Venetian Hotel (where the conference is): This just opened and looks amazing! I got in quick on a split-level “Royale” room (pic: https://reservations.venetian.com.mo/images/suiteinfo/royale_big_01.jpg) for £62 a night (Mon – Thu) and £85 for Fri. There are local taxes of 15% on top. Look out for opening offers available til 28th August here: http://www.venetianmacao.com/en/opening_special_rates/index.aspx
Travel: No direct flights from London to Macau however you can fly to Hong Kong direct from Heathrow – doesn’t look like they go direct from Gatwick.
Ted told me to travel from Hong Kong to Macau by “TurboJet” (boat!) which takes under an hour and is cheap (approx £9 – $18) – here’s the schedule with info on prices: http://www.turbojetseaexpress.com.hk/e/sailing_schedule_fare_table.asp?vname=sailing_schedule_fare_table – it also works out a lot quicker than changing flights PLUS the TurboJet leaves from the airport. And if for any reason you miss it, its a short hop by train into the town where another one leaves apparently. So this is how I’m doing it – no hanging around for luggage at Macau either and the Venetian is only a short hop from the TurboJet point (alledgedly!).
This looks a lot cheaper than getting a flight from London to Macau – by about £300/£400 I reckon plus it saves you several hours switching flights.
I booked my flight with Cathay Pacific via Expedia (http://www.expedia.co.uk) for £461 including all taxes. Expedia was £150 cheaper than Last Minute for the same flight (leaving Sunday Eve, arriving Monday afternoon). I chose Cathay as they have an excellent rep and they use the excellent Airbus A340 with extra leg room (34″). Expedia also let you select your seat out and back too, so here’s a seating plan to help pre-plan (rows 30-44): http://www.cathaypacific.com/popup/0,1030,90765,00.html
Hope that info is useful. PM me if you have any more questions.
Cheers,
Simmo!

October 11, 2007 at 10:43 pm #751133AnonymousInactiveThanks Simmo for the great info.
Bump – who’s going?
October 12, 2007 at 12:20 am #751136AnonymousInactiveFrom talking to people last week, it doesn’t seem like many people are going. I am not going to fly all the way from the US to have a Montreal disaster again.
If you are going, please let us know.
Otherwise I am waiting for London.
October 12, 2007 at 12:29 am #751137AnonymousInactiveI’m 99% sure I’ll be there.

:hattip:October 14, 2007 at 7:15 pm #751266AnonymousInactiveI am intrigued but not going to make it.
Just got back from Barcelona, and beginning December G&C has a staff meeting in Vegas during Pubcon (any affs or skillgaming programs wanna come and join us?) and January is Europe again.
I need to be home some of the time or nothing will get done here…
I hate to miss it though. Macau sounds really interesting.
