Getting new links to a website is important.
Here’s my poll.
How many time do you spend making link exchanges a day.
There can be days without link exchanging so please post the average time per day.

The time is including reading the link exchange requests in your emails, looking through the offers in the forum, making the deal and setting up the links.
The whole procedure.

I’m pretty much the same – I spend a minimal amount of time asking for link exchanges, and more time on acquiring links – would anyone advise otherwise?

Plus I feel that Links will continue to be down-graded as the SE’s get better

I feel that way, too, although I think links will remain a big part of the formula.

My question is, though, what else could they concentrate on over links?

I’m not too sure that they can give TOO much emphasis to outbound links, because that is so easy for SEO types to abuse – i.e. just look for the best PR sites in the field and link out to them.

My guess is that they may start using the data they get from their stats, perhaps adding weight to number returning visitors to sites as a mark of quality, or even for number of pages viewed and time spent on the site too.

It’s interesting stuff…

Did a bit a way back, but now: zero. Might do the odd LE with members of CAP and GPWA I know, but only if it’s a relevant/quality link for my visitors. Otherwise its too much hassle, too many people trying to give you nothing back, too much energy spent checking they are still up etc.

Plus I feel that Links will continue to be down-graded as the SE’s get better. It’s a very poor concept as far as search engine ranking factors go – too easily gamed plus these days, of very little relevance to whether a site is actually any good or not. Google et al know this – their algos just aren’t good enough to totally discount linking. Yet.

If anything, it’s going to be more important who you link to (if it isn’t already). I add links to quality sites without asking for a recip and have seen evidence of improved rankings. Every now and then I link to someone here if their site is a) quality, b) relevant to my target audience and c) ranking pretty well (IE: deemed a good resource by the SE’s). On the basis that if it’s useful to my visitors, it’s useful for people in general and that’s what the SE’s want at the end of the day – the best possible information for people when searching.

Leaving aside the cynical view that they are more interested in PPC revenues of course <span title=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

The final straw for me was when I found out recently a long-time CAP member here had nofollowed all his/her link exchanges with other CAP members, mine included, for God knows how long. What’s the point when you have to deal with this and keep checking up on people?

Very few and only with some members here or at GPWA.
Email contacts are all spamers.
Fake 3 way links, guys working for a big dog etc, etc.

zilch – just straight SEO.

I spend zero time on link exchanges as well.

I don’t spend enough time on link exchanges but will try a little more in the near future. I’d rather write content and check stats as I find link exchanging rather tiresome! I’m going to try a little harder on links from now on though……

Most of the time I get requests for linkexchanges

But I do not spend more than 1 hour per week on it.

But what is more important : linkexchange, backlinks from articles, directory submission, content, seo etc ?
