Is this possible?

Buddy asked 3 years ago
A little confused by this one. I’ve had a new site up for a couple of weeks and its ranking in at number 7 for some not so competitive keywords.

I did some slight amendments to the homepage yesterday, and added content to additional pages. Suddenly from rankin at number 7 in the morning I’m nowhere in the top 500 in the afternoon.

This may be a stupid question but I’ll ask it anyway…Where the changes I made most likely the cause of the drop in rankings? Or…Is it purely coincidental, and my site just happened to go into the sandbox at a time when I was working on it?

Thanks:banger:

Are you using a automated rank checker? if so check about one a week. This just happened to me, except the opposite I added content, and my keyword shot up 450 spots overnight.

Did you add any alt tags, banner, text link this can produce this effect. Look at it this way sometimes it takes a while for say Google to digest the new content and will temporarily move you back.

Give it a couple of weeks to a day, for accurate results. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If you are using a automated checker, also check manually. greek39

Thanks Greek39. It certainly has freaked me out a bit! I’ll check back again in a couple of weeks and will post an update as to where it is in the rankings.:happydanc

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. In about a month after starting a new site, it unexpectedly reached the first page in MSN search for quite a competitive word. I decided to improve the results by increasing the density of the key word the site ranked for. So I just added the words here and there on the page bringing the keyword wensity to 6%. No other changes were made. Despite this effort, my rank for this word suddenly dropped to some 50-s place within a day after the change. A week after that it dropped even much lower, so these days I do not even get any traffic with the word which used to be my main source of bringing visitors. I can’t explain it, but it is definitely not a coincidence. The change I made somehow affected my ranking.

Just checked 24 hours after the changes and the site is back to where it was in the rankings. It appears to have vanished from google for 24 hours after I updated the site. Strange….

Congradulations!! sometimes this happens. Most SE’s sometimes take all while to update. Look at it as a degistive thing, greek39

Yeah, our Google keywords have been bouncing all over the place. Some words disappear altogether for a few hours, then come back to where they were. Google is still rolling things out, from what I can tell they haven’t even completed the PR update.
