SEO No Longer Google Only

Nathan asked 3 years ago
Search engine marketing used to live and die by Google, but although the site still dominates, marketers are seeing other referrers stepping up — a lot.

For most sites, particularly big-name, money-making sites, Google used to be the biggest referrer, day after day, no exceptions. Now, online marketing sites such as Techdirt.com “get an onslaught of traffic from at least one (and sometimes more) social communications platforms: StumbleUpon, Reddit, Twitter and Facebook now regularly come in as our biggest referrers.”

There’s more. With its control of Yahoo, Microsoft now holds a whole 25 percent of search engine activity. From an SEO perspective, Eric Enge at SearchEngineWatch.com advises, “it makes sense to more closely monitor how your site is faring in the Bing search results.”

Live.. and
Die

by Google.

I learned the hard way, if look at Google as being your only source for traffic, if and when you do get dropped by Google- it hurts painfully. Diversify.

Yahoo, Bing Social Networks.. multiple source for traffic is good!
