How to target banners by U.S. state?

cardplayerlifestyle asked 3 years ago
Hi all,

Hoping one of the more experienced members of the community might be able to help me out here.

I would like to add banners to my site that only appear in certain U.S. states (i.e., New Jersey, Nevada). The way I display my banners is via HTML code in a Text Box widget.

Is there some sort of code/string I can add?

Alternatively, is anyone aware of a simple WordPress plugin that does this? (only for individual banners) I only see WordPress plugins that do this by country… I need by U.S. state…

I’ll specify that I’m not a “traditional” webmaster… I don’t know code and programming… I know content and writing, so the simpler the solution (tech-wise), the better <span title=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

Lastly, free is better than paid <span title=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

Thanks,

Robbie

Hey Robbie nice to see you again,

I am almost certain there is no easy solution for you my friend. In fact this very issue has prevent many players from being able to participate in the New Jersey online casinos and poker rooms as they were getting kicked out because the geo tags were malfunctioning even though they were inside the state.

one thing is for certain, there is not html code to do this. I am hoping a tech savvy person will chime in with a better answer. I am happy to translate it into something more understandable if needed.

Hey Jared <span title=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

Thanks for your reply… I will just say that I don’t think it’s exactly the same issue as the players may have. For players they’re pinged on their cellphones to ensure they’re within state borders.

This is simply a matter of IP address when they’d be logging in to my site; i.e., if they’re at an IP adfress in targeted states they’d see the banners, if not, then no banner visible.

So in any event, I tried looking for some WP plugins and found these:

WP-GeoLocation-JS – WordPress Plugin
WordPress ? Geolocation « WordPress Plugins
WordPress ? AdRotate « WordPress Plugins
Epik GeoIP Plugin « Catalog Products « Shop « Epik Media

Specifically I’d only need this for banners (not posts), and the banners would be in the sidebar or sometimes within a post.

Maybe someone here on CAP has experience with them and could make a recommendation? Above all, I’m looking for the SIMPLEST solution that requires the least amount of coding possible…. I wouldn’t mind paying for a plugin if it really makes this a hell of a lot simpler to do.

And thanks again Jared…

Robbie

Just a bump – hoping someone “in the know” might see this post. Maybe the moderators would be kind enough to include in an upcoming email to forum subscribers?

Really hoping for some help or at least for some feedback on the list of plug-ins I mentioned in my previous post.

Thanks!

Hope you all had a great holiday season.

Bumping the post – anyone with experience using any of the above-named plug-ins to geo-locate by state?

I’m fine geolocating the entire site for the specific states if need be, but would prefer a per-banner solution

Alright – sadly no replies here, but for the time being it’s no longer an issue for me at least.

Still would be nice – for educational purposes – if someone out there in the community could reply with an answer based on their experience…
