Do you think it is more productive to work from an office than from home? With all the distractions that you have at home. Or do you think that you can get more done at home?
I think what businesses fail to realise is that co-workers in an office enviorment can also be equally distracting as kids /family at home.I work from home although we do maintain an office that i go to twice a week.I get more done at home because of the enviorment i have created in my home,my kids know i work at home and they respect my need for quiet times.
I think working from home and making it successful depends alot on the personality.September 13, 2008 at 6:30 pm #778619Anonymous
InactiveI worked from home for a while and it was pretty productive, but I just found personally I needed to get out and go into an office for my own sanity and hired a small office with a few other people. Yes they did distract somewhat, but so did the neighbor at home who knew I was working from home for that period. It all depends on a person’s set up.

YoungT.jrMemberWork from home works for me, as a empty nest house, my wife respects my time “at work” and we reserve our chit chat for my break times, I try to get up every hour or two and walk around the house or to the mailbox (not to check the mail, but to get some exersise)
We are planning on moving soon and in the new set up I will assume a bedroom as my office so as not to be in the main living area. I would prefer not being in an office as I can jump online when I get up and read some mail before the coffee is done brewing.

Inactiveso depends on the dedication and personality. at first i worked at a friends office and got distracted and all, but it was a working environment. but that was 3-4 days a week. other times i worked at home.
when i moved to oz land, it fucked me up. there was no office environment and no chance of getting one. took a bit of getting used to, but now its a lot more habitual without any drawbacks. good thing i like what i do and treat it like a compulsive obsessive hobby…
…but sometimes it does get crazy. if i wasn’t studying then i would definitely need an office. otherwise i’ll drive myself mental which ends up in getting plastered in the middle of the week. not cool . bad for business. :roflmao:

JeremyIVMemberIts a real hard one for me, thats why i asked you guys for some insight. For me having the comforts of home is awsome and as i am self motivated i work really hard, however the destractions are huge with TV, music, friends, food, bed, couch etc. The flipside, working in an office also has pro’s and cons. In a work environment you tend to work, but there are always those colleagues who socialise and distract you at the worst times. I guess having a balance is the ideal situation :wink-wink

InactiveI work from home and my kids are out til 2pm.
I don’t drink coffee so my work breaks include putting on some laundry or emptying the dishwasher (what fun!)
Once kids get home there is no work time til 8pm unless its basic email checking.
The system works for me and also means I have good tax breaks on household expenses
I personally have a lot of discipline so it makes life easierRenee K

InactiveWork at home is the best for me, it was my dream, and now it’s real. It depends on you, if you can organize your work you can work from home. Even if you have workers you also can organize your work with them via the Internet and continue working from home.

InactiveI’ve worked at home now since 2001, and can not see me working in any type of an office environment ( something I did for 25 years ).
It took some adjusting, but I have a seperate room dedicated as my office, and once inside there, i’m in ‘work mode’.
I get up early, so my typical day is working from 5:3-AM until around 11AM…. after that, its working around the house….

mikih34MemberA hole in the wall (literally), and somewhat quiet & private space.. the physical place don’t matter here..
There are more distractions at home though..For me, TTHHEE question is – Which hours OF the day to work… not where

InactiveI definately get more done at home because I work every spare minute that I have.
The time you would spend on the commute (3 hours in my case) is worth it alone. I don’t like schedules, but I do have a long to do list that I work on when the mood hits me.I like having a variety of tasks to work on and try to not get distracted browing the net or spending to much time creating a graphic to get it just right. LOL
What I love most is going from bed, shower, breakfast to work in pajamas in less than 30 minutes. I started out working in a room that I made into my office, but found myself in my bedroom on my laptop frequently so I set up an area in the master bedroom where I have everything I need at arms reach including a small fridge and my hubby.
heheIt’s only me, hubby and two furkids, and he does his own thing and lets me do my thing.

I work two shifts a day because of the partners i have living in Israel ,south africa etc ,that tends to help alot for me.its tough working with people who dont consider our time zones and they are going home at the time we are getting up.

InactiveWild horses couldn’t drag me to an office outside the home!
Hubby knows that when my fingers are busy my brain is too and doesn’t interrupt.
It’s convenient, no commute, no dress code, no rules about when I work except what needs to be done.
Still working 7 days a week but starting to cut the hours.

LOL Yep, that is me too. I usually have my headset on when I definately do not want to be disturbed so I can tune everything out.
