Im not a kick ass coder.

But for a poker site like that with tons of pages and links and also some good news and interact features for the surfers, i do wonder whats the best solution.

I dont want to start learning a cms thats ha way too many features than i need. Thats would just be a loss in the long run

mambo are being changed into joomla
    typo3
    phpnuke
    drupal
    XOOPS
    postnuke
    yacs

what script would be a good choice or any other i havnt listed here?

Well… They all have their limitations. You will have to learn a lot about a CMS before you decide it is or isn’t the ‘way to go’, unfortunately.

I used Mambo on my first site and realized that to do database transactions, which is assuredly utilized on Pokerlistings.com, I had to write my own modules and components.

It wasn’t difficult, but I had to learn the internal workings of mambo to get things to happen correctly.

    I build from scratch now.

With all that said… The person either highly customized a CMS or is using something with tons of features. Just a guess, though.

    Thanks for your input

Not sure but i read from their website that “mambo” is now “jomla”

Can you explain what you mean with Database transactions ?

Well i will keep reading here and get back to me if you wanna share something with me

‘Database Transactions’ – I store a lot of my site content in a database. That way, if affiliate codes change, if casino metrics change, if basically anything changes… I just update the database and it will replicate to the entire site(s).

    A good example:

My top 5 casino list (or Top 3 on my main site). I store all the casino metrics (for the casinos I represent) in a database and order them based upon which ones I believe are best for the particular ‘area’ of expertise my site is involved with.

When I feel a casino isn’t as good anymore, I update the order (in the database). Now I go to the site and the order is changed on all the necessary pages.

The ‘database transaction’ is the ‘querying’ of data from the database and then displaying it on the screen.

    Hope that made sense.

they use a custom content management system from what I can see… there’s nothing on the market that can accomodate such a vast site. just by browing their site really quickly I would say that they are either outsourcing to a linux dev house or doing everything themsevles in house.

    just my 2 cents though…

They could do that with Mambo or Joomla and write custom modules and components much more quickly than completely writing their own custom CMS.

You can double that monthly income to 1million NET for PL. After a few drinks at CAC some aff managers get loose lips :shots:
It’s no mom and pops site. Plenty of good talent goes into that organization.

I really should have built some of these sites when I first came to the internet. Back then I was fascinated with directories, search engines, and seo. I should have created some communities and content sites…
