2. The site never recognises your backling you have just added to their site?
3. When you have filled out the whole form the site refers you to an error page?
4. When you have filled out the whole page the site refers you to a page which says “We are currently not accepting any links at this time”I have experienced all of the above that is why I pay somebody when i want to get some links. They can have the frustration , but I feel your pain

vladcizsolMemberThose are minor compared to some of the crap I have seen.
1. “No follow” or “No Index” added to links or page so you dont get credit for the exchange.
2. You go and check a few weeks or months later and the whole page is gone or the links have been removed. You email the person and they apologize and blame a site update. They resore your link and when you go back two months later its gone AGAIN.
3. They remove links on their site to the actual page your link is on. If you bookmarked where your link is or use link verification software it still sees the link and page at that url, but Search Spiders never see it because it’s not linked to within the main site!Etc… Etc…
If people put the same effort into bulding a quality site that they do into conning one way links out of other webmasters they would be rich.

InactiveProactive link building must be the single most annoying activity for the average webmaster.

InactiveHello,
Java Script and CGI or script redirect URL do not pass any credit!

InactiveThe whole concept of link building makes me angry. It’s about time Google recognised quality content rather than relying on the outmoded 1990’s “trust” factor.

InactiveGoldfinger wrote:Proactive link building must be the single most annoying activity for the average webmaster.Yes… I’m constantly putting this off, because it’s boring and time consuming. Maddening too, when you go back to check the links a year later and either the link is gone, or the site itself is gone. Grrr. sigh.gifMay 17, 2007 at 4:09 pm #737178
supervinceMemberCan anyone recommend a good link directory software? I’m looking for something that will allow me to keep my pages w3c valid. Something that will allow me to use my own template and just add links to the div I specify without modifying anything else.
To stay on topic, I get pissed when I see no index, no follow on my links page. Most of the automation software out there don’t check for that. They also don’t check to make sure the links directory is linked from the main site or if the links page itself is in google’s supplementary index.
Another frustration is when you add a link to your website then email the owner of the other website and they don’t reply for like a month if at all.

InactiveRob, i would suggest you not to use directory software.
Why? i have used it for my customer, i had 100 of complaints. caz it doesnt work. so let me give you some example why it doesnt work.
Directory software submit your pages, same way to all directory, but remember all directory are not same, there are 100 different directory, also most of them have image verification. which directory software doesnt recognize. However, even If you submit manually to 10 directory, it will show up in google as backlinks and ranking.
once i have start manually, now all my customer is happy. As a link building, i hate when someone place no-follow. linkbulding is not easy.
but u have to do hard work.May 17, 2007 at 5:45 pm #737195
supervinceMemberThanks imteaz but I think you misunderstood. I’m looking for a link directory script to run on my own website not to spam directories with my link.

InactiveHonestly the whole link building thing is a colossal waste of time and I am angry that we even have to do it. I would much rather pay people to build content but of course google prefers for us to play this little game.

InactiveI have a friend who is also a member here that tells me pr and link backs are not important at all. Personaly i dont know what to think of that because i belive both are very important even if most wish they wern’t Including me.However this good friend also refussed to trade links with me lol so maybe she dont belive what she says either.

Inactivewell JD,
If your friend it correct you should be able to find them in google/yahoo searches for terms they highlight in their title and on their pages. If most of the sites don’t show up in the top 100 or better, ignore that friend’s SEO advice.

InactiveYes, it seems that links are everything. It’s a good old popularity contest.
I have to admit I put it off and dread doing it because of all the reasons above. It’s even worse when reciprocals are devalued like they are these days, and paid links are frowned upon / devalued too. So what is one supposed to do? Like someone above said, it’s a game we must be prepared to play if we want love from Google.
