I’m not afraid to post about anything, honey.
For myself, I am the first person to step to the plate to help a friend, regardless of how it affects me. I have done so time and time again, sometimes to my detriment.
I have to sheepishly admit that no one has explained exactly how or what this guy does until I actually understand it. Pretty hard to know what to do if you don’t know exactly what is happening.
There have been a lot of posts which include emails in code – pretty hard to understand. And I really don’t know how he gets your email to send emails out in your name to other people without infecting you with a virus.
I assumed that the authorities in Belgium have been informed and should be taking this guy out.
Anyway, you’ve eloquently demonstrated why one shouldn’t post about this subject – you’ve been hit by him probably because of your posts. Not posting here does nothing to say what a person is or is not doing about this problem.
So, I plead ignorance on this issue. That doesn’t mean I’m a woosie or don’t care.
Seems like no one dares post in any thread about Jeroen Puttemans.
Do you realize how much spam this guy generates? How much he cuts into our business? How he makes legitimate newsletters a thing of the past? How he hurts the image of the entire industry among the general population?
He has as big an impact on our income as scum, if not a lot bigger.
On top of that he is a plain criminal, thief, dispenser of trojans, hacker of player accounts, seller of credit card info and more.
Guess he has the affiliate community firmly under control and can terrorize people at will.
Nope– we just may not at the moment…
I’m not sure who he is. My assumption is that he’s the spammer everyone’s been talking about in some of the other threads?
I don’t have anything new to say. But I’m here. Take your best shot. I’ll add em to the collection. I even bought extra space just this week for emails. WhooooBoy!

To my knowledge all Dean did was to make an innocent post – here – about spam he got. (Dean, Ellen, please correct me if I am wrong).
The attacks are not the end of the world, all of us are walking and talking and haven’t missed any business. It’s just annoying.

The police in Vancouver, Canada raided a spammer’s house. I believe they relieved him of his computer equiment and arrested him. Apparently he sent out millions or billions of advertising spam.
Does anyone know the legalities in Belgium? As far as I know, it’s illegal just about everywhere to attack other’s computers with viruses or trojans and stuff like that.
And it looks to me like there’s enough evidence of his activities to make charges stick.
He must have his own server, or he’d be out of business already.
He has many, many servers.
The thing is that many aff programs continue to do media buys from him, and he is an affiliate of many.
Look at the thing I posted publicly about it today – the copy of the letter. In it you will see several programs and his aff number.

Although you never know, it may not be his aff code but Dean’s or someone elses he hates.

I first notified the Belgian authorites a week ago along with anyone I thought was remotely connected to his advertising scams.
My first point of contact was the Belgian Kiddie porn division asking to be directed to the correct Belgian authorities.
I was put in contact with the BCCU (Belgian Computer Crimes Unit) and they asked for any info that could link Jeroen Puttermans to the selling of player informantion and this would determine if a file could be opened on him locally or whether I would have to pursue it through the Australian Federal Police.
I provided headers, links and anything I could lay my hands on and this is currently under investigation and I have reason they will be able to act on it locally providing my information is sound…and I believe it is.
They have enough already to pin the trojans on him. 😎
Yes Dom, the attacks started from a simple post.
We soon realised he was serious and had to take prompt action with our isp and our server hosting company.
The atacks escalated fron the initial 10’s of 1000’s of bounced mails to near 100,000 on Thursday, completely crashing my mail programs and necessitating complete deletion of my inbox by my isp.
At the height of this attack I managed to divert the mail for a nine hour period straight back to Jeroen along with an auto reply detailing his personal info…I figure he got around 80,000 bounces to his various email addresses. This slowed him down for a few hours once he has sent the emails out there was no stopping the bouncing. The attack slowed and I re-diverted the mail to myself and went out for a few hours and returned to another 53,000 emails.
They are also initiating proceedings (my isp) as Jeroen included them as the reply to in the last batch of viagra spam spoofing our headers.
I have just returned from a few days away and have around 1200 spam which are probably the tail end of the last attack.
I figure he has a bulk list that is useless that he uses for this…he advertises as having over 7 million email addys and I am pretty confident he used at least a conservative million on our behalf.
Fergie, basically he got emails from profiles in boards for his attacks. The trojan virus is probably used to what is called sniff ports…find ways in which he can use innocent host computers as email relays and/or retrieve information such as account info etc.
Let’s face it he is not a happy camper and until the cuffs are on he will likely continue his little game. He uses several servers and of half a dozen abuse complaints to road runner it seems no action has been taken.
In circumstances like these I have infinite patience… If the authorities prove powerless to act in a reasonable amount of time (I figure 2-3 weeks to be “reasonable”) then it will have to get personal.
I would prefer if the above information stays right here, forewarned is forarmed.

I am very sorry to hear of your problem with this scumbag. The reason I have not posted about this is I have been very busy still yet with my home remodling project that is still not finished yet. This asshole Jeroen Puttermans needs to be sent to prison for a very long time for his actions. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know.Yep, he is a pain in the ass. I am still under attack. The stuff just keeps queuing on my server and then gets deleted. Its a nuisance, but not going to hurt me.
I don’t blame anyone for not posting publicly. I had an idea of what I was taking on and with preparation I was still caught unawares…
So, unless you have a few days up your sleeve stick to anonymous phone calls… 😮
Jeroen believes himself untouchable and with good reason. Most spammers get away with it quite simply because they can and they make money. Why stop when you send 7 million emails that may have a 0.5% buy rate for viagra/bigger boobs et al? 0.5% is 35,000 purchasing customers. At even $1 commission per customer per month….
Easy to believe yourself too clever, and this will be his undoing. Who knows the name of one spammer? I do. This one.
Let alone his address, phone number and record of public admission to spreading trojans, reselling stolen software, selling e-gold account retrieval software etc.
No, it doesn’t hurt, but is a major inconvenience and I recommend anyone without the time and resources to stay clear. Save the hip hoorays for when the little beggar is in jail or hospital with severe injuries (hey, he might fall in front of a bus), whichever comes first.
Bullying irks me and it always has. I stood up to my first at 12 years of age in the UK, the playground type. A kid that had made my first 6 months at school a living nightmare of abuse and fear of even going to school or getting on the bus.
My courage came, not when he was picking on me, but when he put a classmate through a plate glass window head first and 150 witnesses turned away. That classmate was happy girl and 2 years of platic surgery changed that forever.
It is definable by the same untouchable attitude and “I am better than everyone else”. Where it comes from, I don’t know, an abusive childhood, genetic abnormality or what.
The one thing I believe in this, is that no little prick has the right to make anyone’s life a misery because his life is miserable spiritually/socially.
There is no plate glass window here but I feel the mentality behind the motivation is the same. Intimidation doesn’t work on me anymore.

Every day I get a lot of emails that are obviously sent through innocent party’s email servers from their email boxes with zip attachments.

Dom, Dean, I know your type, cuz I’m the same way – I’ll butt in to stick up for someone or help someone if I feel they are being treated badly. Hell, One night I made a complete ass of myself on a forum sticking up for someone who was being picked on for no good reason – physical violence was threatened and I couldn’t tolerate that b.s. – so I put my foot in it and found myself in a nest of hornets and being picked on myself. lol Of course, no one came to my aid….

Jeroen is going to get his. Attacking other webmasters is cavalier and over-confident. He feels untouchable, and is tripping up by attacking computer savy people who are documenting the evidence against him.
What the hell is he getting out of all this? It’s pointless – he’s making his money and there’s no need to go about harassing people and risking prosecution. Overconfident and most likely has a screw or two loose.
