It’s a piece of garbage just like everything else Microsoft releases.

That’s a bit harsh, I haven’t used Vista so don’t know whether it’s good or bad but to say everything from Microsoft is sh1t when they have so many excellent products like Excel and Microsoft SQL Server, to name just two, is a bit silly.
I recently tried using my brothers brand new Macintosh which he never shuts up about and I absolutely hated it, I guess I’ve been using a PC for too damn long, plus I seem to be immune to apple advertising, as I must be one of the few people on the planet without an IPod!

. I find many of the new features a pleasure, especially the way I can view my desktop with one click as opposed to XP’s right click task bar…. select show desktop.

windows button + D shows desktop instantly on XP .. the best shortcut ever imo.

Hate it. Hate it, Hate windows, etc.

Windows is over 20 years old and they still have some of the same bugs as i was dealing with in the 1990s. The company that screwed up computing for 10+ years by refusing to drop support for the old 8088/8086, was perfectly willing to change the interface for their OS and Office for no reason, other than to sell more upgrades. Thanks guys, glad i’m stuck learning the new way you want to me to use your bloatware.

    Programmer gripes about windows:
During the 1990s i was a windows programmer and saw what a piece of crap it was. Claiming to be device independent, requiring the programmer to retrieve device information then remap his program to this device, every other graphics system let you grab a screen pointer and send it to print function and it did the work. Several different graphic coordinate systems that programmers need to keep converting between. Talk about written by committee.

Being from Detroit, i love listening to people piss on the cars we sell for being crappy/unreliable. Well i’ve never had a car that would just stop running or the steering wheel suddenly locked up every few days i was using it. If cars worked as well as Windows, we all still be using horses to get around town.

although I haven’t used Vista very much, from what I saw it seemed like they took some elements from the Mac OS, which isn’t necessarily a good thing for those people who were used to the traditional windows OS

I knew this post would be a mac vs windows thread like all the other ones I’ve seen or been in. I just know that with 3.2ghz and 4gb of ram with my HDs set in stripe I shouldn’t have any speed issues yet sometimes with Vista my machine would grind to a halt even on a clean system. I just got tired of it very fast and found performance on XP faster for the things I needed to do.

What I do care about now is what I think will be the dominant OS in the future because with marketing you need to speak the language with everyone. Maybe things might accelerate where we have browser based operating systems which with some websites you can do most of what you need. Give me photoshop in a browser and I might be able to work on any platform.

proof that Vista is not a successful OS lies in the fact that not many business desktops have switched to it, but instead stayed with XP. Vista sales are going so bad that MS didnt even release the sales figures (# of vista copies sold) for the last quarter.

MS really needed a new OS to make even more money as the world was saturated with XP platform, so they came up with Vista. The problem was that Vista was not a completed system and wasn’t compatible with a lot of other applications, even though it was already delayed in its launch. I would probably say though, that I’ld expect Windows 7 to be much better than Vista and XP together…

Don’t have any problems with Vista although I didn’t like it, but all new laptops have Vista.

I rather use MS-dos 6.22 with Norton commander.

Personally, I think Vista is a nightmare. I have hamsters running in a cage that can move faster than that.

All show and no go. Horrible.

I’ve been using a Mac for about 18 months, and previously i was using XP. From the little exposure I’ve had to Vista I did not have any serious problems but I have heard all the horror stories. I’m pretty content with Apple for the moment (can use Dreamweaver, Gimp, and Mozilla) so i don’t plan on making a change any time soon, but i am curious about the next Microsoft OS. If they come out with two duds in a row, a lot of people will start to lose faith in them, and they’ll probably start losing some serious market share.
