Inactivethis is one of the main reasons i hold onto my current job, insurance, tax assistance and they cover my SS tax to the fullest.. would be real nice to keep the car parked more often and still have decent medical / dental (although dental is a joke if you ever need real work done)
Thank for this, it is somthing i was thinking of proposing actually the more I looked into personal family insurance.

yeap, they want you to wait a year before the work can start, wtf is going to walk around with their teeth falling out of course your going to bite the bullet and pay out of your own pocket. I just paid off my bill for 5k to my damn dentist. I would welcome a dental plan that gave me a decent discount and waive the yr wait crap.

stevejMemberI have recently been talking to a friend of ours about this same thing. She came up with this company:
After some research, and talking with some knowledgeable folks, I’ve
decided to get the Shield Spectrum Savings 4000 Single health plan.
$48 a month $4000 deductible a year (seems reasonable enough), after
that expenses covered 100% up to $6,000,000. Seems like a good plan
being that I don’t go to the dr that often and just want to be covered
in case something big were to happen.
Or is everyone looking for cheap doctor visits? I for one do not like going to the doctor unless absolutely necessary…. after all most people die in the hospital. A few years ago (dont know right now) the average life span of a cardiologist was 54 and the majority die of heart failure, etc…. (yes, that’s right, I don’t trust the folks)But if I get hit by lightning or a car or something, I’d like to have coverage.
If we can get group rates I’m interested. I am not so interested in groups like Humana, and Kaiser however, which have extremely bad reputations in my mind *

vladcizsolMemberQuality care with most doctors included in the plan is a key point we want. I have looked at programs that have such a limited number of doctors and specialists that it makes tem undesirable.
Regarding Dental. There generally is a year wait for periodontal services, but not standard dental services like exams, cleanings, extractions, fillings, crowns etc.
Even though the wait for more extensive services is a pain in the ass (or teeth) after you get past that period dental converage can save you thousands on corrective and cosmetic procedures.May 13, 2008 at 3:30 am #767709
affiliategodMemberLet’s NOT discuss teeth! I was in a major car accident back in 2002. Rolled over in a car, broke 2 vertebra in my neck and the dam insurance company cannot understand how I broke my teeth. The dam car rolled over and slid across a major bridge……HELLO!!!
Anyway, yes, it took 6 years (I have a high pain tolerance) but couldn’t take it anymore. I have spent ALL of my savings in the past few weeks between the Dentist and Endodontist. The dentist said I need about $80,000 worth of work on my teeth. Yes, eighty thousand. All not fault of my own:( Right now, I am broker then broke.
In short, Prof, I’m definately ALL in with your insurance plan! It will include dental, yes?lol

affiliategodMemberBTW, I just backspaced and saw Cigna was on the list. I highly do NOT recommend them at all. Had them years ago when I had some “female problems” and they never paid the doc. Went on my credit repot and all. Took me sueing them to get the doc paid. Don’t think anyone wants that aggrivation.
Have you considered Oxford? Just a suggestion.
May 13, 2008 at 1:44 pm #767731
vladcizsolMemberOk More we will add Oxford to the list.
Yes Dental is important so we plan on including that. I was shocked to here how much your dental reconstruction is! Good luck and I hope you get through with all that as soon as possible.

InactiveAwesome idea Lou insurance has been one of my main reasons for keeping my job besides loving what I do.. If this is an option for an affiliate I can see many more going full time and making more money for the programs.
Don’t rule out Cigna it must depend on the negotiated plan with the company we have them at NASA and they are pretty good.
For dental we have Delta Dental

InactiveHey Lou,
I think this is a great idea. Patty, Melissa, and I health/dental insurance cost $1,650.00 a month. Patty is qualified to get Medicare in September and this may help lower our cost. Pre-existing medical conditions I believe can raise group rate costs. If you have pre-existing medical condition and do not currently have health insurance, you could be insured through a group plan, but you would have to wait for a year for coverage to kick in.May 14, 2008 at 4:03 am #767785
affiliategodMemberProfessor,
Yes the dental restoration is rediculous. At least what I have put into it within the past weeks, I am at least out of pain and able to eat normally. Since the accident. it’s been a long, hard road.
Don’t rule out Cigna it must depend on the negotiated plan with the company we have them at NASA and they are pretty good.
Talk Casinos,
My operation was in the negotiated plan. They even approved the operation. I wouldn’t have been able to have it without their approval. They just never paid that doc. Which I don’t understand how they could approve an operation then not pay. That is why I had to sue them for payment. In short, it would have been cheaper and alot less stressful to pay for the operation outright. Although, we do tend to assume, when we have medical insurance and proceedures are included in our plan, that they will be taken care of without a hitch. Not always so.

Inactivei already posted here and it seems there’s lots of us agreeing that the idea is an excellent one – but where is it going from here? Whats the next step to get it all rolling?

VdpcevnjMemberJust a quick reply to this regarding the cost of dental treatment in the US (based on more4me post) if you need dental work costing 80k USD you should consider getting the work done overseas.
A lot of people in Europe are travelling to countries like Turkey, that offer 1st class dental, medical and cosmetic treatments for a fraction of the cost of what you would pay in the UK and US
Like anything shop around, but definitely worth a look.
Cheers

DanmanMemberGreat idea if it’s viable Prof… my concern for you regarding group cover is the insurer might not consider CAP a genuine group! Covering all members in the States might be one thing, but extending that beyond borders will likely be impossible.
I work in bet365’s Gibraltar office (there are 7 of us working here) and we have a separate group policy and terms to that of our HQ in the UK, despite the fact that we work for the same business group (not company it should be said).
That all said, any insurance firms will likely be interested in talking to you – after all there’s money to be made for them, and you’ll likely get a discount on each member’s policy as you’ll be bringing them a wad of business – you may not get the same discount as a genuine company would.
Good luck either way! I guess it means us operators can afford to drop those commission rates if you get it! :wink-wink

InactiveProfessor,
I am completely down to sign up – count me in!
I’m sick of paying ridiculous fees that we have to pay if we want individual coverage. And they apparently flat out deny you if you’ve been to a doctor within the last month – ridiculous!
