InactiveMay be useful when comparing very similar sites, using the theory that if the user has the toolbar installed and they visit one site over another. But it always gets back to the fact that webmatsers are more likely to have the toolbar installed. That is, webmasters other than me because I have never used it.
In the end, to prove a site’s worth, nothing competes with raw logs and bank account records including both income and expenses.

Inactiveheh, Fergie, I saw on the Future PR tool link you sent out the other day a windows program that sits there and hits your site for you all day long at programmed intervals specifically to trick Alexa.

InactiveDoes it just hit the index page or does it mimick page depth too?

vladcizsolMemberThanks Bernie!
That solves alot of mysteries about sites that no one ever sees anywhere who have inflated Alexa Rankings.I knew there was something wrong but just assumed they were buying cheap traffic that was saturated by people with the Alexa Toolbar installed.
When you look at Alexa Traffic Graphs for these tricksters you generally see a series of spikes when they do the buys seperated by durations of their actual traffic (Basically zero).
Perhaps this tool can produce these results also?
Is this the tool you were talking about?

InactiveI think it was from
xwww.fakerank.com
but I went there now and it’s a DNS error.
The program was free. anyone wants it (for examination purposes) I’ll post it somewhere.

PS: Can someone tell me why when I try to view the ratings for xwww.coloradogamblingforum.com the ratings for
xwww.heartbeat-of-evergreen.com show up instead? That’s a very old site of mine that I sold long ago. I have no idea why it’s showing up. How do I see my true Alexa rank?
sorry for the ignorance!

InactiveAlexa gets confused sometimes. I had an unknown site show up under gamesandcasino for months. Very odd.
The spikes tend to appear naturally on sites that have huge attendace differences between weekdays and weekends, for example. The most even results are popular message boards, the spikiest are things like role playing sites.
Of course bought traffic will show even results primarily, and then drops as the buy runs out. Also, spikes happen with bought campaigns – I find that banner campaigns create big spikes for me.
This tool – sorry to ask again – does it just mimick hits to the iindex page or does it affect page depth and the other stats also?

vladcizsolMemberYes it appears you can hit sub pages as well to mimic page views…

InactiveThis has really made me quite angry.

It would have been one thing to fake index page hits, but deep hits – that screws everyone legitimate.
Just another one of those things I guess.

Man, isn’t that pathetic? LoL
Well, I don’t know what’s with spikes. My stats have spikes, and my traffic is very smooth – all of it from SERPs. Maybe it is the weekday/weekend variation. Although I get less traffic during the weekends, I really don’t think it’s enough to make spikes. I have stopped ppc – except for a mere $20.00 a day at goclick, as a crutch that makes me feel better. :p
Alexa is so lame. My new sites, which get 10% the traffic casinogeek does actually get the same ranking or better some days.

InactiveAs I posted earlier, webmasters have been scamming Alexa rankings for years … primarily to inflate their traffic numbers for selling advertising.
If somebody tells you to look at their Alexa ranking, you can be fairly certain that they are faking their Alexa stats because they are using it as a sales tool.

GuestSometimes I sit and think about all the devious methods some people use to increase their online income.
And I wonder if I’m missing the boat by playing it on the straight and narrow.
Then I remember this: One’s honor, integrity and credibility cannot be bought and once you’ve lost them – particularly your credibility, which is how people measure your worth – it is nearly impossible to get them back.
Some things can’t be bought.
[damn, this halo is starting to give me a headache]
