akcov68MemberI have some friends that studied Russian for a while, and the LOVED it!
Have you checked out to see if there are any lRussian conversation groups in your area? I know a lot of people who have had success learning fast that way.
Good luck!

Wow, thanks a million CAP, you guys are great! I’m still on the fence about which to learn, I mean Mandarin is awesome just because of the growth potential and close to a sixth of the planet speaks it. But Russian is very popular in our industry and perhaps could benefit me more in my job as an affiliate manager?
Obviously I can’t learn both at the same time (I’m smart, not Mensa smart) so I think Russian would be better for me right now. I know bud405n said Rosseta Stone works great, I saw some ipod versions that look all right too any other suggestions?
Thanks again CAP.Cody i’m not sure where you’re from, but you should check your local university as they tend to have short courses that last around 10 weeks at a time. At the end you also get a certificate so you can put that in your resume/CV.
I think the next language I will learn is Hungarian. My father is hungarian. I tried to teach myself a long time ago but realised it was one of those languages that had to be taught to you.
I’d love to learn Russian.. I thought it would be hard to learn Greek because they use a different alphabet to us but after learning the alphabet and learning how to read, I found that was the most fun part (especially to impress people who can speak, but cannot read).
Just don’t give up! We will be expecting regular Russian expressions on the forums!June 17, 2008 at 3:01 pm #770354
wallstreeterwwMemberOK CAP get ready for some Russian in a couple weeks.. We’ll see what I can learn, I have to grasp to subtle differences in the alphabet first.
You guys rock!!

Of the three languages I learnt, I found French the easiest. The language has such a logical structure in terms of verbs etc… There are about 5 irregular verbs which you will need to memorise the rules for, and the rest are regular verbs, which means depending on if you’re talking about yourself, to someone about them, or about a third person etc, the ending of the word is the same always.
Good luck!

jeffinMemberI really want to learn to speak Spanish and German but I think learning to write it would be the most challenging part for me. I can’t fathom how a person can be fluent in so many different language – blows me away!
