InactiveHi Simmo,
A great idea, when I was studying at university they had mentoring program and they would match students up with working professionals in the career you where interested in.
How they matched the student with the working professional was by getting the mentor and student to answer questions on industry interests and likes and matched the two people up. I am sure that a similar process would work in a situation like this.

InactiveGreat thread!! I personally have used several CAP members as mentors and Simmo is one of them
I would say Dom has been the biggest mentor to me and then there is Casino Crush who is awesome on tech stuff , I think this is a great idea and I have always felt that credit should be given when it’s due

I think people could manage themselves. the presence of a forum would be enough probably. It would be nice to have a “reputation” system of some sort – bit like Ebays system maybe. But thats not essential.

InactiveI like the idea. There could be a Mentor forum; those who need help could post requests in a new thread, and those who can help can PM them or reply to the thread. And if someone doesn’t live up to their end of the bargain, they can be named-and-shamed in that thread.
Great idea Simmo!

Exactly how I envisaged it. Or mentors can post their areas of expertise likewise.

InactiveI think that it’s a great idea. Being self-taught there are times that I wish I had someone to ask a question of like I did while working in corporate america.
It has been my experience that most “geeks” love to show off thier skills and help when asked. I learned a lot of technical things by hanging out with them as much as I could.

InactiveWhile we’re on the topic, I have to say that Randy has been an enormous help to me over the past several months, allowing me to bug him here and there with questions, giving me advice/opinions on the design of my site, and putting up with the emails I send him when I get excited over little things, such as 2 days ago when my site finally climbed out of the Google sandbox (I can’t tell you how exciting that is for a new webmaster). Randy has been very encouraging and helpful along the way.
Thanks, Randy! :hattip:

InactiveSomeone in the PAP forum mentioned today a student interning for him for six months, that might work in this situation as well. If you matched up with a mentor, and worked as an intern, in exchange for assistance or rather guidance with your own site/s future in the industry etc.
The exp. you get from working directly with someone in this industry is invaluable, I’ve worked with several people, and I always learn sooo much from different point of views with each group I get to know.

InactiveI think it’s a good idea also.
I learned tons from the Professor and the Captain, as well as everyone who posts here.

frankBPMemberWell I for one would be very happy to be mentored by anyone with good standing in the industry.
But I’m not sure what I could offer in return. Beer, maybe!
