Let another webmaster run it, and place their banners there, and moderate it, etc.

biggygMemberI am new to this industry and was wearing blinders until about a month ago lol.I had no idea people paid posters in forums until I seen the ads posted in other webmaster forums. That is sneaky to the people buying the adspace on the forums. Now i count the different poster accounts before i buy the ads LOL

327007MemberBack when I had my original site, before I got into casinos… I grew a forum from nothing to 1000s of posts per day with 10,000+ members. It received more that 90% of posts on the web that related to the website topic, taking most of the traffic away from all of the existing forums.
Some of the key elements for growing the forum were likely:
1. Having the top Google ranking under the three most related Google search terms, and getting most of the new traffic2. Having a superior message board format, including both message board type and forum selections
3. Timing… the largest forum from before the days of my website went under. The posters from that forum knew about my forum.
4. Having a few very high quality posters that were not on other forums including industry reps and retired former workers in the industry (the latter had much more interesting and informative posts)
5. Having more interesting discussions as a whole, many of which were started by me in the early days
6. Having more relaxed forum rules than elsewhere
Having said that the forum was an incredible about of work, and not particularly rewarding. I have not added a forum to my casino sites because of this.

Inactiveforums are time consuming – my best advice is to close the forum and make some good usefull content instead. Don’t go to war if you don’t have a chance of winning. The big gambling forums are way ahead of you.
A forum with no posts is really not the best way to make your site appealing to users – if your site have a forum with no posts the general user will think that your entire site sucks and leave.
If you really must have a forum – don’t start out with making 30 different forum catagories – start with one or two forum catagories….
If these two catagories at one point starts getting too many posts for the new topics to stay on the first page – then make a new catagory.
That is how the big forums grow I am sure.To start a succesfull forum think of ways to diversify yourself from other forums – what do your forum have to offer that can not be found on 1000 other forums?
On my former site we had a very very sucessfull forum – sure it adds stickiness to a site and also generates a lot of free usefull content. However running a forum is so much work that I will not do it ever again.
Good luck

InactiveForums are very time consuming. Best bet is to get a bunch of idiots to do all the work for you then set back and reap all the rewards.

We have mods that have been with us from the start up and we would not have anything if it was not for them girls, they make the contest, chase the spam away and run the site for us basically and I would never consider calling them idiots! If your staff will be running your forum I would suggest to NOT take on this attitude!

InactiveForums are a hit or miss item it seems, Ive had very good luck, Ive seen others fail quickly with no real reason. Best advise is to give it a shot and see what happens, and it is a bit of work as people will want resoponses in a timely manner.

InactiveMake it something you enjoy – I run a poker league in my forum that I participate in and it’s on it’s fifth season now, I really look forward to the games and chatting about it.

InactiveI saw this thing on another forum…
THey give away $200 each month to the member who “stood out” the most… But that would be a waste of money now since I dont have any members yet, but I might concider it when I get some members… :turn:
