tcollickMemberForums and message boards feature a strong network effect. The more people that register the more useful the message board is to the users. This makes it very difficult for new message boards to break into the “market” unless it has something of particular value to drag users away from other message boards.

biggygMemberI have my own forum with 300 members that I abandoned ,maybe 2-3 of them stopped by each week but it really killed me on the time.Even when i had 3 of my firends and myself making about 30 posts a day mostly talking to eachother it didnt really get any new blood going. Now i just give it up to the existing forums and buy ads from them lol

InactiveForums are very time consuming and are hard to get started.. they take time not only in hours a day, but in the time in days and months behind you. Just keep at it.

InactiveForums that are large are very very time consuming and hard to run, if your not willing to sit at it for 12 to 14 hrs a day working at it then you will not benefit. You have to be what the members are looking for and with the online communities they are looking for someone to listen and advise them about anything and everything, you have to maintain a strong presence on the forum and just have the right personality I think that will not turn people away.
You have to start from the ground up, it is not easy, you will need to go and post all over the net in other forums( be sure to do it in the right spot so your not spamming) be friendly with other forum owners most are willing to advise you and there that are not so friendly.

InactiveOkay, my turn…lollll
I also have a forum, only 744 members, and have been at it for two years. Iwas well know in the forum community before i started my own forum, and thought that would help, but it didn’t. I am not like….Bonus streak, or Daera, who have thousands of members. They have huge boards, and are growing, and don’t know how they do it! lol
But my advise from what i have learned is this.
1. you have to offer something that catches new members eyes, and you have to go out and promote it at other forums, and gambling communities.
like….A new free chip offer from a good casino, or a contest or two.2. you have to get atleast one casino sponsor. With this sponsor, you can set up a contest or two, worth a free chip or two, or a nice deposit bonus for players. If you do not have any casino sponsors at your forum, then forget getting any members.
All members of forums are looking for some kind of bonus for thier money that they deposit at casinos, thats what we are there for, bonuses, advice, promotion updates, and free chips or contests.if we do not offer this, all the members will go to the bigger b oards who do.
thats a fact.
So, if your looking to get busier, i first would suggest sending out sponsorship letters to some good casinos or pokerrooms, send out many!!…for you will only if lucky get a couple of responses.
My favorite to approach are…
Wager Profits…[ sci fi casino and breakaway.] very nice
Jackpot factory…[ all slots , first web…etc.]
Inetbet….[ everyones favorite rtg]etc… also try to find a casino or two, that no one else has as a sponsor, go to other boards, and look in thier contest rooms to see who is sponsoring them, and try to find someone new…this will get members to your board.
and also, update everyday casino promotions, and bonuses. try to keep up with whats going on and keep new , news for your members.
Hope this helps, it helps me sometimes, but its still a long road.

Inactivetriple777’s nailed it.
You could also add poker freerolls and maybe set up some casino game tournaments with bonus or cash prizes.

InactiveHire people to post at the beginning. Offer cash prizes, say $10 via neteller, for someone randomly drawn from the day’s posters. I would think that might help get some action. as the daily posts increase, switch from $10 a day to $50 once a week, then $100 once a month. As you move from daily prizes to monthly, make the prize for “best article”, where you pick 5 posts and have the community vote on the winner.
that’s one specific, simple way of trying to build traffic, for $300 or less a month.

InactiveWe no longer run our own forum. Well, we do – it’s still there and gets a small amount of activity – but we no longer link to it.
Best to leave it to those who have made it work, in my opinion, than fight a losing battle.

biggygMemberok to all your forum owners I am buying adspace so PM me your site and prices LOL.I am really too lazy to have a forum , i find my own blog enough for me and now got a MYSPACE .We should all get myspace and do exchange with eachother ,we can all get a hot myspace by end of the week lol.Seriously guys i got a myspoace less than a week ago and already gettign 30 hits a day on each of my 2 websites i post there.
January 15, 2007 at 3:25 pm #722603
biggygMemberIf you decide to do a myspace , keep it simple , just use online poker, online gambling ,online casinos or very direct keywords and you will get people who want to gamble coming to you.Avoid the hot girl photos ,they will just get you spammed to hell and back lol.

supervinceMemberMost people when starting a new forum have to hire people to post everyday. You can hire people for as little as $0.10 per post. If you want more valuable content then you might have to pay a little bit more.

InactiveHere’s a few things I do whenever I set up a new forum, and a few I don’t but that are available.. Some of it is more search engine orientated than people… but it might help.
- Change User Titles (Use keywords .. Slots newbie.. Casino Champion.. whatever
- Join a posting group
- Pay for Posters
- Seek out talkative folks, as honorary moderators
- keyword all catergories and forum names
- post a few articles in the forum
- Use controversy
- Use your network
Changing the user titles to keyworded items means those keywords are going to be all over the place, and gives your forum another shot in the search engines, I didn’t use my own examples, because well that would just be dumb.. but be creative, choose some keywords and make use of them.
I and my partner run a little posting group, I used to be a member of one on google that went dormant so we created our own. There may be others, beats me, basically we all just promise 2 posts a week on the other guys forums .. in exchange for posts to ours.
There are sites that offer this service, as well as CAP members willing to do it (please don’t pm me and ask, im out of this business, and suck @ saying no:P ) .. you might try an ad in the services and content are if you want to hire, better to find them here so they know what theyre talking about

Giving ppl the title moderator, with few privaledges is 1 way to get some spam removed for free, as well as make your users feel special, so they will return as well as promote your forum.
Writing articles and plopping them into the forum doesn’t generally spark much discussion, but it does add some keyword value. If you end up with a great useful article on your forum that you think the masses must see, add it to http://www.digg.com and other like sites (stumble – delicious.. etc) that will bring some traffic, and likely some users.
Sign up with an alternate user name, and use controversary to your example.. Take the unpopular road, people like to debate. Gives them a reason to talk, and u can bet they’ll be back to see if the idiot responded to their post yet.
Use your network… I have a network of close friends that help me in just about every adventure in my life, both offline (the MSN group
(Heya guys!! lol) and offline.. ppl i share interests with etc.. Be there for them, they’ll be there for you. Get them onto your forum chatting, if they own one.. do the same
Hope there’s at least one useful hint here
