InactiveDid I miss something? I thought the whole Idea was to have less events not more. My understanding was (from CAC) that we as operators were going to streamline the events to max 4 per year? with some local small events?
WOW! Talk about a case of hypocrisy to say the least. Seems like programs are making affiliates choose and I will choose whatever venue Alex puts on in London he does a fantastic job and Amsterdam was a great success! I don’t think this is fair in the least to make us choose. Just when I thought maybe just maybe everyone in this industry was ready to put the past behind and team back up and rock the net but seems that is not the case.:sarcasm:

This is the truth – Its basic economics crossed with Darwin. i.e. supply and demand with survival of teh fittest. We saw exactly the same thing in 06 with mobile gambling conferences – That year there was 6 or 7 – The last one was in nov and had just 20 people. The following year there was just one because it made no sence to the organisers or the delegates to have more. These things will sort them selves out.

I think the organisers of all these conferences should sit down together and have a chat about doing co-sponsored shows or something. At least if there were less shows co-run by 2 groups there would be a better expectation that most people would be there.
Great idea but afraid to say at this point in time it won’t work and is massively unlikely for a number of reasons including
a) A lot less profit – A lot of people assume there is big money in events and I did too before I got involved but the truth is the costs are very very high and the margins are low so by working with other groups you are massivley reducing your profits and increasing your risk vs return
b) Completely different business models and approaches to an event – Of course you could meet in the middle somewhere but teh identity of the event and what made it a success will be lost somewhere
c) Why would we do this? I know this sounds rude but think about it, I love poker, I don’t want to download loads of rooms, I want to play somewhere with loads of players with games all the time, I don’t want the hassle of making different usernames on different networks, etc. Why can’t Party, Pokerstars and Fulltilt merge so I can have one room which will make it sooo much better for me as a poker player? It would never happen. I firmly believe that delegates come first but I also have a responsibility for the business I run, the salaries it pays, the budgets set by my bosses, so have to weigh up both sides to ensure there is a balance between the two, i.e. the business and the delegates.@sycochicken 203646 wrote:
how about posting an attendee list for the conferences that Alex runs? .. like if you confirm your registration for a conference, why can’t the attendees be listed by CAP username or something – that way everyone knows who’s going
This is something we have been working on – What I am trying to develop is a tool where people can network prior and during the event to arrange meetings etc. Facebook events helps a little with that but comes no way as close as we want to get to. Printing lists of attendees is possible but a vast amount of affiliates seem averse to having their details made availaible – A way we could start is by making all AM’s attending available for the attendees as they won’t mind and a lot of affiiliates often message me asking me to put them up with xxx room as they don’t have direct contact details so that might at least be a good start.
Anyway – I am waffling on now = My conclusion of all this is that a GAP event in London is bad timing and pretty stupid as it benefits no one not even them, BUT it isn’t a huge deal, the industry will tick along, affiliates and operators will choose where they want to go where it be London, Amsterdam, Budapest or all three and over time things will level out – After all we don’t work in the iGaming industry for predictability and stability – The fun part is not knowings what’s next :3eyes:

How about something with the software now used for virtual conferences? Attending programs and affs can have “stands” and people can login and submit requests for meetings? Or even talk real time if logged in at the same time?

BetsoftGamingMemberI only just found out about this ‘Mind The GAP’ conference and to be honest I’m not so sure its a great idea either.
I believe the only way it would be close to working would be to hold it at a time later in the year, however as has been said previously…TOO MANY CONFERENCES.
It’s not just the cost, it’s also the time out from families. I have a 2 year old, one on the way and my wife works. I had to miss out on Amsterdam (AAC) due to my wife working and no baby cover. And I am sure my wife would not be too chuffed with me spending 10 days in that London to attend conference after conference.
Someone somewhere needs to sit down and think about this and do it properly. 3 conferences a year, January, May and September I think can be justified but AAC (Alex’s Affiliate Conferences), CAC, ICE, GAP, Affilicon, Spring Break there are also UK focussed ones from A4U. Soon there will be jobs created for people to hit a constant stream of conferences, they will have no life outside of work and will only travel, meet people and get drunk (don’t tell the boss).
I know they are very profitable, how else could Alex afford all that hairspray, and I am all for choice, but come on if we dilute it will devalue the visit of each conference.May 12, 2009 at 8:13 pm #799647Anonymous

I do agree with you Alex. At the same time though I think that if there were less conferences you could get more people attending, more operators/groups etc (because their cost would be lower to attend just 1 or 2 conferences than 10), which would theoretically mean a higher profit for you (the organiser).. It might be impossible for two groups to join up like you gave an example on the poker rooms above, and I see your point.. I guess I was just trying to throw an idea out there.. hopefully someone can bounce a legit idea off mine and so forth.
I think everyone has had enough of all this crap really and I would just like to see something done so we can all get on with it (and so I can finally get to these bloody things).
Maybe someone should invest in an airline and a hotel chain…
As I said previously, bring back Vegas!

InactiveWe actually looked into a plane when we were looking at Malta as a venue – We were going to charter a plane sopeople could save on their connecting flight and more importantly have blackjack, poker etc on there – We even had a potential sponsor interested!! Maybe one day……It would be one hell of a crazy plane though!
