    damn!

    scary.

    google, yahoo? my tube?

    wwwwwwwwwwffff..

tough times ahead. one i’d never thought of.

content may survive some … but I doubt even that will gain the current incomes we now see ……….even in these troubled times.

sorry to sound depressed ….. but damn.

I know one thing. Current casinos better pick up the pace in both aff production and player satisfaction if they ever want to compete if the above comes online.

My feelings on this is that yes, if it becomes legal all the big brands online like myspace, google, yahoo etc and also all the big offline brands like sony, harras etc will enter the gambling market for sure…… there is no real doubt about that.

Where will that leave Affiliates….. i think is wont kill us at all, as all most of the new rooms will have affiliates as they all want more players to sign for them (just like all the other legal industries).

However i just feel there will be less players to sign as these already established brands online and off will get alot of players direct (more so then any of the current online gambling brands ever did)

So overall i feel revshare / cpa’s will be become lower and there will be less people to sign.

Reason i think cpa’s become lower is with an open market, player retention will be at much lower levels then in the past – there will be so many more new rooms to try out / play at.

However to compensate a bit, i beleive (which sould push players to sign higher maybe to current levels or even higher) if it becomes legal the online gambling market will increase loads and loads as lots of people who prob wouldnt ever gambline online currently would become online gamblers as it became more mainstream.

Just like if they put a real casino in every city, the amount of gamblers would increase many times over.

And for the nay sayers who think affiliates will crumble if it gets legalised…. i say rubbish…… As long as affiliates can send real money players to their choice of casino / poker room, you will have a casino / poker room who will pay you for them….simple

    I definitely agree, Darko!

Affiliates service the web. The web is just a baby as far as industry is concerned. Things will evolve and evolve, and markets will change, but every business wants to advertise and hence affiliates are here to stay.

When we see what actually happens we will adapt and continue on, like all other businesses, online or off.

    Hi all,

D; you make a good point. and as I mentioned i think content will make a big difference.

but I think it fallable to think all, ….. or most affs will set where they sit …… or perhaps said sat …. a few months …….. a year ago.

I think what really remains to be seen is what affs are paid.

    just my opinion.

I think one of the problems of the future for affiliates is not that rev-share will decrease, but affiliates will have a harder time getting to the top of search engines when they are competing with the actual search engines and other authority sites that will gain natural backlinks with ease.

    I agree CWG:

I think its a mistake to think that people will click our links …. if even given the chance …. to join google, yahoo …. etc. casino.

why? when there will be link or more likely a banner on each SE site?

I hope i’m wrong. I do think we may be given the chance to promote them ….. but much in a way that any google adsense ad is done.

the income possiblitity ….. even with the increase in players ….. will be much less accountable. just my opinion.

    again …….hope I’m wrong.

*on a side note- really suprprised we’ve been given the chance to make money on many instances … where if i ran the SEs …. I’d simply include my own link code on any direct link to that casino / program.

Once the US catches up with the rest of the world and legalizes the industry

When’s that? 10, 20, 30 years? Never? If it does ever happen the ‘net will look very very different from what it looks like today, there are.. unknown unknowns.

Yes i def agree, however i just did a search in google for “credit cards” and “credit card” – not one Bank (or visa / mastercard) was on page 1, yet they all have high pr an authority sites and they pay loads of money to affiliates for stuff credit cards, insurance etc

All of page 1 was affiliates (apart from Wiki)

Surely those that are currently in the gambling industry offline would enter the online world if/when it becomes legal. However, I don’t see too many big portals (Google etc…) moving into the gambling market – Not directly anyways. I’d imagine any player playing at ‘Google Casino” that loses might potentially stop using their other services.

I think we’re worth more to Yahoo/Google/Myspace/Etc in advertising dollars and service users than we are as casual online gamblers. I think non-industry companies would be risking quite a bit by trying to enter a market that they really have no business being in – Especially since it could dramatically hurt their image.

I’m pretty sure the monopolies commission and some hefty microsoft style anti-competetive lawsuits would be brought into play if SE’s started playing this kind of game – think about it, in the future there will be virtually nothing you can’t do online and any megacorp portal offering every single one of these services would not be tolerated; Google Casino, Google Dating, Google Porn, Google Credit, Google Movies, Google Shopping, Google Music, Google Mortgage, Google Gaming… you see where I’m going with this.

They can make far more, and of course have already done so, by letting others outbid each other by ridiculous amounts for these services without getting any of the hassle that would come with such a huge business model.

And like it or not there many many people who think that this industry is seedy if not downright evil and I can’t see any major companies promoting it on their front pages.

    Hey,

i disagree a little – although i agree you, you wont see google doing it that much, but you say SE’s wont be allowed to do this…… They Are already doing this

    Yahoo Poker
    Yahoo Dating
    Yahoo Credit Cards
    Yahoo Shopping
    Yahoo Music
    Yahoo Movies

Im sure there 100’s more Yahoo “whatever”

And yahoo is 35% or so of the US market as a search engine and Largest Webside online for visitors and noone is moaning at them.

I hope those with optimistic output is right …. of course.

but it doesnt’ get around the fact yahoo has already created poker ……. and in position …… many other aspects leading to what i hope doesn’t happen.

what if it does? do you really think these ….. or any programs are going to offer such lucrative offers for affs ……. if this all comes about?

So what if they take the #1 spot in their own search engine for these terms? They are not likely to take ALL the top spots for themselves, and they will always have competition.

The concern that comissions will be lower is a real one. It just depends on how competitive the market is.

The casinos that do not have such natural exposure will try to compete and pay whatever they can afford to beat out the competition.

The industry is actual unnatural at this time, most programs pay pretty much the same rates. In the off line advertising industry, that is not the case in any industry.
